Photographer's Note

The Granite Sphinx, Cairo Museum. In the bg is another of those Egyptian jigsaw puzzles. Subsequent Pharaohs often dismantled or reused the wall tiles of prior Pharaohs to glorify themselves.

"This granite sphinx was one of several that once stood at Hatshepsuts mortuary temple. This remarkable woman ruled Egypt, first as co-regent for her nephew/stepson Thutmose III and subsequently as pharaoh."

The museum has since closed and exhibits have been moved to the new museum in Giza.

I am not sure if so many tourists have helped the image submitted by the above website.
