Photographer's Note

The Male Dungeon, the Female Dungeon, the Door of No Return. Names that can only bring to mind the horrible atrocities that happened at this very site not too long ago, standing atop the rampaarts of Cape Coast Castle. At this very spot and time though, the sun is shining, the air crisp and clean, waves breaking, palm trees swaying. The view is spectacular. Behind me, the town of Cape Coast. In front, an endless view down a beautiful beach. Not a bad sight these days.

...no post processing on the color, just taken into the sun.

A great shot, John. I love the miniature silhouettes of the people near the sea. The light is magical, even more so because there is no PP involved. Thanks for that! Another thing I really like in this shot is how the horizon seems to have almost disappeared in a haze of sunshine.

i like of this composition.The photo is very balanced with the dark side in the right and the light side in the left. Tje efect and draw that the water make in the sand is beautiful.Good colors

the shot is very well done, whit the light and the reflex in the water, in a foggy day with only two colors.

This is absolutely beautiful! I have stood at that very spot atop Cape Coast Castle, but not at that time of day or season. Looks like there are still remnants of hamatan in the atmosphere, or perhaps it is just moisture. The colors, the contrasts, the details, the composition--all just great. This photo evokes strong feelings within me as the little gasp that escaped my mouth when I first viewed it will attest! Congratulations!

Hi John

A very beautiful light, a freedom and peace feeling, a time languished in a remote area, that's the impression we get from the picture, that contradicts the informations of your note. And that's what I like in it, with the different layers, the very special light of the moment, and the low activity.

Stunning capture! Fantastic depth, the 'soft' saturation almost in monochrome. Before reading your notes, "At this very spot and time though, the sun is shining, the air crisp and clean, waves breaking, palm trees swaying." exactly what I had in mind, silvery waters, the breeze, simply Wow!

interesting collection of Africa you have, I'm glad I stumbled across your portfolio...
this is a great shot, you very well captured the atmosphere of this place... (I was there a few years ago, but unfortunately it was pouring down at the time...)
wonderful pov and colours, love the endless beach and the activity going on... (kids playing, shipyards...)

I really like your POV. This coast line looks particularly rough despite the proximity of the houses and the lack of large cliffs. Wonderful image that feels African. Well done!
