Photographer's Note
The Male Dungeon, the Female Dungeon, the Door of No Return. Names that can only bring to mind the horrible atrocities that happened at this very site not too long ago, standing atop the rampaarts of Cape Coast Castle. At this very spot and time though, the sun is shining, the air crisp and clean, waves breaking, palm trees swaying. The view is spectacular. Behind me, the town of Cape Coast. In front, an endless view down a beautiful beach. Not a bad sight these days.
...no post processing on the color, just taken into the sun.

A great shot, John. I love the miniature silhouettes of the people near the sea. The light is magical, even more so because there is no PP involved. Thanks for that! Another thing I really like in this shot is how the horizon seems to have almost disappeared in a haze of sunshine.

Hola John,
Me gusta mucho la luz de esta imagen, los reflejos plateados que deja el agua en la orilla, los fuertes contrastes, las siluetas de la gente y de las barcas y ese extraño cielo grisáceo.
Regards,
Mirari

dramatic photo for a dramatic note, very useful
the shot is very well done, whit the light and the reflex in the water, in a foggy day with only two colors.
it's my favorite.

Hello John,
Amazing shot with unusual colours. The DOF, the silhouettes, the trees on the background are very nice. I like the vertical choise. TFS,
Catherine

A beautiful windy cost full of life with all these little people. Your note is terrible but it seems however that life is stronger then everywhere there. The mood is terrible on this picture. A masterpiece. Geraldine

Hi John,
the elevated point of view, associated with the undulating traces of water on the sand and this superb light make for a very beautiful picture here. The vertical format is very appropriate also. Congrats!

John: oh yes, this one grabs - drifting into the distrance, all the elements are salient. Great color, misty ambience, and the light is subdued without being lost in the high contrast. regards, c

Hello John
I'm having an evening of favourites, and this has to be added as a truly awe-inspiring picture, but I feel ignorant of the history surrounding the location

Salut John
On dirait une plage du bout du monde.
Une ambiance extraordinaire se dégage de cette vue..
Ces vagues, ces pêcheurs..
Bien vu

John,
This is absolutely beautiful! I have stood at that very spot atop Cape Coast Castle, but not at that time of day or season. Looks like there are still remnants of hamatan in the atmosphere, or perhaps it is just moisture. The colors, the contrasts, the details, the composition--all just great. This photo evokes strong feelings within me as the little gasp that escaped my mouth when I first viewed it will attest! Congratulations!

Hi John
A very beautiful light, a freedom and peace feeling, a time languished in a remote area, that's the impression we get from the picture, that contradicts the informations of your note. And that's what I like in it, with the different layers, the very special light of the moment, and the low activity.
Congratulations
Marine
It reminded me another picture that I came to discover a few days ago. It is the picture collective... from the member noborders and it's also from Cape Coast in Ghana.

Hey John,
Stunning capture! Fantastic depth, the 'soft' saturation almost in monochrome. Before reading your notes, "At this very spot and time though, the sun is shining, the air crisp and clean, waves breaking, palm trees swaying." exactly what I had in mind, silvery waters, the breeze, simply Wow!
All the best ;)

I really like your POV. This coast line looks particularly rough despite the proximity of the houses and the lack of large cliffs. Wonderful image that feels African. Well done!
Sincerely,
Kate
