The lemur is undoubtedly the most famous animal of Madagascar, many have asked me for photos of this species, and here you are content. Here we see a female lemur macaque, an endemic species of Madagascar, while in the WS you can see the male that is distinguished by its black color. This species is very common on the island of Nosy Komba, where it can also be approached, especially if you bring bananas. It mainly lives in the rainforest, both primary (that is still intact) and secondary (forest grown back following a cut); with the increasing anthropization of its range, the species has adapted to live also in plantations and public gardens. Throughout its range, the maca maki is considered a bearer of bad news and it is generally a taboo to kill one: on the island of Nosy Komba is considered a messenger of the underworld and killing one means attracting the wrath of the souls of the dead on the village of the killer.

Il lemure � senza dubbio l'animale pi� famoso del Madagascar, in molti mi avete chiesto delle foto di questa specie, ed eccovi accontentati. Qui vediamo una femmina di lemure macaco, una specie endemica del Madagascar, mentre nel WS potete vedere il maschio che si distingue per il colore nero. Questa specie � molto comune sulla isola di Nosy Komba, dove si lascia anche avvicinare, specialmente se si portano delle banane. Vive principalmente nella foresta pluviale, sia primaria (ossia ancora intatta) che secondaria (foresta ricresciuta a seguito di un taglio); con l'antropizzazione crescente del suo areale, la specie si � adattata a vivere anche nelle piantagioni e nei giardini pubblici. In tutto il suo areale, il maki macaco � considerato portatore di cattive nuove ed � in generale un tab� ucciderne uno: sull'isola di Nosy Komba � considerato un messaggero dell'oltretomba ed ucciderne uno vuol dire attirare l'ira delle anime dei defunti sul villaggio dell'uccisore.

Ya I guess you will post this kind of image soon, as Madagascar have somay unique mokeys as such. This is geat nature image in the perfectfamework and the best timing shot when he gave camera-eye to you. Waiting for the another ones.

Hello Luciano,
By public demand, here is finally a lemur. ;-) These wonderful animals would be the main reason for many people to go to Madagascar at all. And this is really a perfect photo, not just for sharpness and exposure, but also for the composition. The lemur's tail held parallel with the tree trunk and its body parallel with the branch. Its eyes looking straight at you and the green background contrasting with its brown fur. Everyone would love to take a picture like this, and the WS, so consider yourself lucky.

I love lemurs, I enjoy when I see some documentary about them on TV, plus the great variety of them.
Here you have captured one of them with great and intelligent eyes that seems to look down on you, beautiful that reddish fur, the background with the green of the tree is ideal.
Very nice color, which together with the good sharpness and optimal lighting, gives great quality to the image.

Very special looking animal. These are not shown often in nature documents. Reddish brown fur looks so good against the green foliage. Your framing is perfect. And the workshop is equally impressive.

It's a strange but cute looking creature somewhat like a possum here in Australia. If I am not mistaken that is a mango tree so perhaps it's looking for some ripe fruit? Tfs!

Fantastic red color. I wonder if the red eyes are consequence of flash or they are red indeed. They would go along with the rest of the body anyway.

Lovely animal looking curiously at you with its red eyes that stand out in the image! The colors of this female make the photo much more attracitve than the male we can see in the workshop, it makes a very nice contrast with the green leaves of the surrounding. Luciano, that female maca maki is climbing a mango tree branch. Madagascar is worldwide famous for its lemurs. That species is very beautiful and big. The fact that it is a taboo to kill them participates to its protection in that area. Pleasant nature picture
