Photographer's Note
Diema, north-west of Mali, Kayes area.
I posted a picture of the market that takes place at the cross of 2 main roads in this town a few weeks ago : The little merchant of Diema.
We're still at the market, this time a young man carry a plastic barrel in an handcart.
That attracted my eyes is the football shirt he has on him.
Indeed, I could easily notice that football is a very popular matter in West Africa, and from school to the street, (young) boys often wear a football shirt (most are counterfeit).
Of course we can see big names : Cristiano Ronaldo, Beckham, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Del Piero, Rooney, Henry, Raul, Lampard, Ibrahimovic...
Also african stars : Drogba, Kanouté, Adebayor, Essien... but the most popular shirt is the one of Samuel Eto'o, the Cameroonian striker of the FC Barcelona.
Discussing with people, Eto'o appears like the most popular player in West Africa, for his talent and for his personality.
Sorry for the ones who don't appreciate football, but this sport takes an important place in a lot of people's mind in Africa.

Salut Yannis,
Une jolie note, et une belle prise... En effet Eto'o est un modèle, pour son mode de vie autant ou plus que par ses performances,
Bonne soirée,
JB.

Hi Yannis!
Not only in Africa.People in S.E.Asia are mad about football, especially the british premier division,it´s 24 hour hours at some TV chanels and many young people wear the colors of their favourite club.
A nice daylife shot with an interesting background.
FUNNY;IN EXACTLY THIS SECOND ETO SHOT THE 2:0 against Bayern Munich in the 13th minute.......
I hope this guy has a great evening with a few drinks and can forget his hard job and life.
Best regards,leo
I love it when the FC Bayern munich loose....

hi Yannis,
Football and travelling are two real passions of mine, and it's always a great topic to chat about with people. Either football or children always seems to do the trick. In China, it can be quite a struggle, though, to understand the name of the player. Do you know Hong Li?
Latest rumour is Eto'o would join Liverpool next season (we need someone like him, he's welcome!), but I hope it's not his brother here in your picture that they're talking about!
(A pity you cropped off the guy's feet, but otherwise composition is OK, and the background is great.)
Cheers.
Benny

Bonjour Yannis!
I think he scored again, against Bayern Munich! No wonder, with such hard practice! Excellent daily life scene, and a great humorous photo! Congratulations!

Salut Yannis,
Amicalement
Diane
