8 of march : woman's day..., a photo from Sikasso, South

Photographer's Note

For this Woman's day, just to remember that there is a lot of things to do : equality of salaries, parity in responsibility jobs and politics, domestic violence in the West ; civic rights, voting right, schooling, forced marriages, mutilations, stoning, slavery... in other parts of the world.

A day is not enough, women's emancipation must be a everyday fight ; it's just a day to take bearings at a moment of the year.

Here we are in the south-east of Mali, between Bougouni and Sikasso, on the road between Bamako and Burkina-Faso.
This veiled woman (Islam is the first religion in this area) was in water duty. Here, not all the girls can go to school and a lot have to start working early in their life.

Je trouve tr鋊 bien pens� la pr廥ence de l'affiche sur les pompes � irrigation car si le probl鋗e de l'eau 彋ait mieux ma褾ris�, cela serait pour beaucoup dans l'am幨ioration du sort des femmes dans beaucoup de pays.

Yannis, I am not sure why your On the Road did not garner better response but this one is to me as exciting. These show a detached view of a world unlike anything I have ever seen. Your work is not impersonal but it does have separation and I find that really comforting I suppose. Anyway great work.

J'avais rat� celle-ci que j'aime beaucoup (ainsi que ton commentaire). Cette femme partant chercher de l'eau dans cet environnement publicitaire pour l'achat de pompes � eau est tr鋊 bien pens� et r嶧lis�. Je pense que si tu l'avais interrog嶪 sur la journ嶪 de la femme, elle t'aurais regard� avec des yeux ronds.

J'ai longtemps v嶰u � Bobodioulasso, et fait � l'envers ce parcours.
ta photo me parle plus qu'� d'autres sans doute!
j'ajoute � ton commentaire, que je partage 憝idemment, que la femme africaine est aussi une reine, belle, 幨嶲ante, une m鋨e infaillible, et celle qui porte la famille de tout son amour.
