The old fort of Tafnidilt, a photo from Tan-Tan, South

Photographer's Note

Tafnidilt, south of Morocco, about 30km north of Tan-Tan.

Away from the road between Agador and Mauritania stands an old french fort that kept watch on the border with the Spanish Sahara until the end of the french protectorate in 1956.
It's now ruined.

This land between Morocco, Mauritania and Algeria was under spanish protectorate from 1884 to 1976.
When the Spanish left, a long war between the morocco government and the Polisario Front set to 1991.
The statute of the Westerner Sahara is not defined yet.

The french fort was kept by "goumiers", Berberian soldiers of Morocco, part of the french army.
The goumiers made a lot of wars for France : "pacification" of Morocco during the protectorate, the Rif war (1924-1926), the 2nd WW (Tunisia campaign, Sicilian campaign, Corsica liberation, Marseille's liberation...), the Indochina war (1945-1954) and the Algerian war.
The goums were disbanded in 1956 with the Morocco's independence.

This fort seems to me very interesting. Why is the colour so red? Is that the color of the stone.
It's always difficult to shoot inside, but you did a good job here.

Jolie harmonie des couleurs et belle utilisation des espaces dans ta composition. Un peu plus de nettet� aurait pu donner plus d'impact � ton image.

Que de photos et que de pays visit廥 !! Ta gallerie m'en donne le tourni et j'ai eu du mal � choisir sur laquelle m'arr皻er !!!
Celle-ci est particuli鋨ement envoutante par la lumi鋨e chaude qui joue avec la couleur ocre des murs et ce d嶮ale donne de bien belles perspectives, j'aime beaucoup la composition.
