Photographer's Note

Buffaloes live as a family, so they are less vulnerable to predators, felines. A defense system to protect the little ones.
There, young and old quenched their thirst. On buffaloes we can see several red-billed oxpecker, birds that rid them of parasites.

They have wild buffalo in the Northern Territory of Australia introduced from south east Asia, but I've never been there. Nice to see them in the wild rather than ploughing rice paddies in Bali, Vietnam or Java. Tfs!

A perfectly taken photo of this large buffalo family gathered for a drink. You were lucky to be in a position for such a sharp and well exposed photo. These are sometimes known as the most dangerous animals in Africa, always ready to attack, but the water protected you.

How exciting this must have been!
It's an awesome sight! Though the buffaloes come as a family and have huge hors, they must still have to be very alert when they visit a watering hole, like this.
You have taken some spectacular photographs, wonderful mementoes of this holiday.

Indeed I remember watching a movie Planet Earth where similar size buffalo were pulled into the river by crocodiles.
Hard to imagine but possible.
Great wild life scene, fantastic reportage from South Africa. It must be very different to see it all in the real life and not in ZOO.

This is a great view of wildlife in the park. I noticed the specks of red on some of the buffaloes, but I didn't realize they were birds until I read your note. These animals are very impressive, both in size, and with their large horns.
