Swimming Lesson, a photo from Arusha, East

Photographer's Note

This was taken from our bedroom window in the Arusha Hotel, Arusha, Tanzania. We stayed a couple of nights in beautiful surroundings before starting a safari. Arusha has two airports and it is easy to get an international flight from Nairobi. What I was not expecting was a 13 seater light aircraft and we were the only passengers! Arusha is close to Mt. Kilimanjaro and the coffee plantations.
The small girl in the picture is clearly having a wonderful time with her father in the hotel pool.

Hello Ann,

A fine picture with lots of impact, the subjects taking up a large proportion of the frame. Beautiful colours too and the little girl's bright yellow cap contrasts well with the lovely turquoise water. Wonderful shrpness and detail and, of course, the eye contact with the little girl, make this a lovely picture.

Yes, light aircraft can be a bit unnerving. I remember being with my daughter flying across Madagascar in one. You just chucked your baggage into a space in the tail and climbed aboard. The door into the cockpit was open and as we took off, the pilot lit up a cigarette and puffed away merrily.

as a man who doesn't know how to swim, i can totally relate to this small girl. I've taken lessons as a child and as an adult, but it just doesn't seem to work for me :)
the yellow cap adds that little splash of color.
