Photographer's Note

Elle vient chaque jour, comme beaucoup de ses consoeurs sur la c矌e sud est de Zanzibar, avec un gros sac rempli de noix de coco.
Elle les enterre dans un trou qu'elle creuse dans le sable � mar嶪 basse
Un jour plus tard, elle revient pour les d彋errer et en remettre des nouvelles.
Les noix de coco se sont impr嶲n嶪s d'eau de mer, de sable et de sel pendant 24 heures et la fibre qui les recouvre peut ainsi 皻re arrach嶪 de la coque plus facilement
Elles battent cette fibre et la roulent entre leurs mains pour faire de la ficelle
Un artisanat important de Zanzibar car cette fibre de coco sert � fabriquer tapis et assises de si銶es et de lits

She comes every day, as many of her fellows on Zanzibar south east coast, with a big bag of coconuts
She buries them in a hole that she digs in the beach sand at low tide
One day later she comes back to dig them up and put new ones
The nuts have become impregnated by sand, salt and water for 24 hrs and the fiber which covers them can then be removed more easily
The threads made from this coconut fiber are used to handicraft rugs and seatings of chairs and beds

Hello Patrick - This reminds me so much of the beach we were on in Kenya and I guess that's not surprising as they are neighbours. I love this shot - the colours of the ladies clothes add a real punch of colour to the pale sandy beach. Fascinating note too. Warm regards Rosemary

toujours aussi blanches...les couleurs toujours aussi douces...la barriere de cocotiers rehausse le tout!!

A very interesting photo, Patrick. Without your note I would have had to guess hard what she's digging for with that stick in the sand:) Love the row of palm-trees in the background and soft colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Patrick,
The composition is colourful and spectacular and the note is interesting. In such large parts of the world people have to work so hard for such a small reward. I didn't think of this when I strolled the beach of Zanzibar and probably a majority of other tourists also don't give it a thought.

tiens, int廨essante ta note sur la noix de coco! I didn't know...Sympa ce cadrage vertical fa蔞n fus嶪... il y a � voir � tous les 彋ages:le sac, la femme, la ligne de cocotiers...chouette compo. Je trouve l'ensemble trop lumineux cependant, on perd en d彋ails. Mais j'imagine que la lumi鋨e 彋ait tr鋊 forte...

Smart choice of a vertical frame with impeccable sharpness. Maybe I would rope of the shadows, invert, apply a feather margin & add density using levels. Might try a ws later. There also appears to be a blue magenta colour cast, also easy to fix. That said, this a superb daily life scene & very well composed. The line of coconut palms adds nice perspective. Belle photo pleine de douceur malgr� la lumi鋨e qui semble assez forte. Bon choix de cadrage avec cette femme en pleine action au premier plan et la diagonale des arbres qui ouvre la photo sur la gauche et donne une bonne profondeur. Avec ces trous et ces noix de coco tu aurais pu jouer au golf :D

Another excellent Zanzibar picture from you. The lady working hard on the beach makes a fine subject and your note is helpful explaining what she is doing. The quality of the image is superb although I might have used a thin black line as a frame to show more clearly where the edge of the picture is - a problem of the beautiful white sand!

Tr鋊 jolie image. J'adore la composition et la luminosit�.
Comme tu me le dis souvent, une partie provient probablement du cailloux utilis� (j'ai command� le m瘱e cette semaine, donc tu devrais bient矌 commencer � le voir appara褾re sur mes exifs...).
Le cadre est un peu bizarre avec cette ligne noire sur les c矌廥 mais absente en haut et en bas.

Hello Patrick,

You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle that she is woking to bury or dig the coconuts at beach sands. It's impressive and pleased in her colorful clothes, too. The whole is harmonized and balanced well by good arrangents of sands, her and a row of coconuts tree.
