Photographer's Note

Another shot from the finals of the world tango championships - this time the silver medalists in the show tango category (see previous photos for fuller notes on the festival and competition itself).

This was my favourite couple: their choreography really told a story, they worked together beautifully and in this shot, I think I managed to capture the erotic side of tango dancing: I was really pleased with the head positions especially. Just a shame about the plastic chairs in the background: the back part of the stage was set out for a tango band which played later on.

The title comes from one of the most famous tango songs by unarguably the most famous tango singer: Carlos Gardel.

Once again 200mm lens, a long way from the stage, so no flash, high ISO and taking advantage of the stage lighting.

the best of the series maybe, even I don't like sqaure format most of the time (only coming from 120 films). Because of the red, the colour of passion.
Love the pose of the dancers and their expressions.

I love to watch dancing and dancing pictures and this is no exception. The red dress is a gorgeous swatch of colpur against th dark. This is so sensuous and so right.I see what you mean about their heads, eroctic yes.
I have a group theme 'Come Dancing' and will add this to it, if that's ok with you?

Hi Iain, the tango is the king of all dances and you've captured all the emotion and sensuality of it here. I think the choice not to use a flash was an excellent one. The high ISO maintained the intimate lighting (a flash would have ruined that for sure) and also allowed for a better sense of movement. I can see why this couple were your favourites. Great cropping and the positioning of your subjects (again not an easy thing) is well chosen and executed. About the chairs, these could probably be de-emphasised by a selective Gaussian Blur of the area. Will try it in a separate Workshop when not rushing off to work. Hello Iain,

The conditions were far from perfect for photography but you have captured more than an image, you have captured a mood. It is hot, it is senuous, it is moody, tango dancing as we see it displayed by professionals, on t.v. I love it.

Iain,

Another cool shot which, again, gains atmosphere from the high iso - at least in my view!

It hovers somewhere between reality, 1950s poster, and a posed model in a wax-work museum - that would be the Tango waxwork Museum. You might just be in the ideal place to start such a venture - but don't, it would be madness!

yes indeed this one is very much erotically charged. The red dress enhancess that feeling too. The noise due to high iso makes an interesting atmosphere here -it seems like a old photograph.

You caught a fantastic moment with a great sensuality. 3200 iso give a particular grain and I think that you also strengthened the neatness what gives the aspect of an old photo, as a colorized photo of the 50s. It creates an extraordinary atmosphere.

We can regret the heavy noise and need for high ISO, but it's all compensated by you catching what is so perennial about the tango. Passion,movement, and the assertiveness that makes this dance what a night of love-making would be to a romance.

F幨icitations pour cette prise de vue.Ce n'est vraiment pas facile lorsque le sujet est en mouvement et qu'en plus il y a peu de lumi鋨e.Le cadrage est excellent et il resssort efectivement beaucoup d'廨otisme dans le croisement des jambes et le rapprochement des bouches.

Good evening Iain,
of course, I realize that posting photographs like this (about deer and car) is a perpetuation, but it is above me not to post them :-). It is neat, cute and wonderful to see such an alliance between Nature and Man. Unfortunately, in my motherland someone will never see picture like this and that is why every time I see something like this I am anxious to memorize it and share with other people :-)
I will come back later to your other tango photograph, but, for now, I stopped my breath right here. It is so attractive, so emotional and expressive that can be only in tango dance, only TWO and music, only TWO and their feelings, their emotions only TWO and their passion - these are all TANGO, the most beautiful and emotional dance on the planet!

I had been, on & off checking your gallery but sadly did not have time to crtq! Your series of the tango is from a different plane, at least for me, a photographer with limited capabilities! The vitality, the energy, the sensuality oozing out in each of these pictures...magnificent! and none can be more than this picture! I'm sorry I chose an older post of yours to comment on, but the sheer beauty of this prompted me to. Excellent work!

Hello Iain,

Nice shot because there is a real piece of ambiance. First with the overall red color and second or perhaps especially because of the 2 dancers. To my mind this photo is evidencing what is tango.
The photo is a bit soft, first I was thinking for a low shutter speed, but seems more related to an issue of focus, not so easy to manage with long focal lenght.

Tremendo paso de tango y tremenda fota que has captado, en un instante tan espectacular de este bonito baile, magnificas las expresiones en las caras de los bailarines, que has captadado con gran nitidez.
Muy buena la medicion de luz, asi como la calidad de la imagen. El variante en sepia del WS, tambien da un resultado esplendido. Un precioso trabajo.
