Photographer's Note

Peuple de l'Inde nomadisant principalement au Gujarat et au Rajasthan, les Rabaris sont souvent consid廨廥 comme parents des tziganes. Venus peut-皻re de Perse ou d'Asie centrale, les Rabaris se seraient implant廥 en Inde il y a un millier d'ann嶪s. Bas廥 dans leur r嶲ion ancestrale du Kutch, ils partent en transhumance sit矌 la mousson estivale termin嶪, et sillonnent le Gujarat et le Rajasthan, poussant m瘱e parfois jusqu'en Uttar Pradesh et en Madhya Pradesh, � la recherche de pat壜ages. La "r憝olution verte" lanc嶪 par le gouvernement indien en 1947 a men� � un 廧uisement des sols et � la d廥ertification des zones de pat壜e traditionnelles, obligeant les Rabaris � mener toujours plus loin leurs troupeaux. Ils ont 嶲alement d� d幨aisser de plus en plus l'幨evage de dromadaires au profit des ch鋦res et des moutons.

     People from India, the Rabaris are often viewed as parents of the gypsies. Probably coming from Persia or central Asia, they supposedly installed in India about one thousand years ago Based in their ancestral region in the Kutch desert, they start their transhumance as soon as the monsoon is over and mainly wander in Gujarat and Rajasthan, sometimes even further to Uttar Prudesh or Madhya Pradesh, looking for pastures. The "green revolution" launched by the indian government in 1947 has led to some exhausting of the soils and to some desertification of the traditional grazing areas, pushing the Rabaris to lead their herds further and further. They also had to give up camel breeding and focus on goats and sheep.

Quel beau portrait ! Le cadrage est extra , avec la volute de fum嶪 ... Les couleurs de l'arri鋨e plan flout� s'harmonisent vraiment bien avec le sujet .

Je pense qu'il y � quelques semaines en arri鋨e , ce clich� aurait tout d憝ast�, mais bon , le d廧art de quelques uns et peut etre le manque de temps ou d'interet, font que...

waou.... Un portrait de folie avec un bokeh qui le sublime. J'adore le regard inpir� du fummeur, qui aspire tout le plaisir (destructeur) qu'il peut, la nettet� qui conserve une certaine douceur au visage mais qui donne tout son rendu au turban et la vitesse choisie pour le rendu de la fum嶪. Bravo

Lovely character study. A well framed image that tells a story with some good eye contact, a portrait with information about his character. Excellent portrait, a face that has seen more of life than most people ever will. Simple but very effective. You have timely caught his expression and his features whilst enjoying his passion as he rightly deserves, and the smoke is an icing in the cake.
