Photographer's Note

The Tees Newport Bridge was designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson and built by Dorman Long, who were also responsible for the Tyne Bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was the first large vertical lift bridge in Britain and opened to traffic in 1934.

It spans the River Tees at Middlesbrough and, though still used by traffic, had its lifting capability decommissioned in 1990.

Hi Paul,
I had never seen such a bridge before ! I imagine the central part of the bridge raises thanks to the lift when a boat needs to pass by the bridge ? Good POV on this piece of architecture, excellent light and nice effect of long exposure time on the pink clouds in the BG.

This is an amazing work of engineering, quite a spectacular bridge.
Taken with that longer exposure in that gorgeous light, it is a real eye catcher. The picture is so clear, the colors gorgeous and the sense of movement in the clouds adds a god deal of dynamic to the composition.
Truly a great photograph indeed.
