Rainbow Beach, a photo from Queensland, East

Photographer's Note

I spent the first week of 2012 on this beach in Queensland. Rainbow Beach is a rather sleepy and relaxed township about a three hour drive north of Brisbane, and just south of the more famed Fraser Island. The beach is named after the colours and patterns in the tall dunes in the distance occurring from different ores and minerals. The beach is used as a road; four wheel drive vehicles can access parts of it and travel to Double Island point in the far distance. I also got an aerial view of this incredible place a few days later when I went skydiving. I highly recommend a visit here.

Hi Matthew - wellcaptured, especially without the hords of AWD that haunt the beach. Good composition with the clouds stopping there being too much sky.

Hi Matthew.
Good to see you around again!
You've made a very striking photo of this fairly flat beach scene, with good use of wide angle lens and setting the horizon very low to bring the fluffy clouds right overhead. The highlights are well controlled and the sky and clouds benefit from the CPL treatment. The scene looks so inviting from the perspective of a bleak, wintry Melbourne Sunday. Not sure about the frame with its layer of white above the sky.
