Photographer's Note

This is the railway station in R鷨os, one of the main stations along the R鷨os Line and one of a few still manned and in operation.

The R鷨os Line connects Trondheim to Hamar over 喒terdalen the East Valley. The line was constructed between 1862-1877, and officially opened by King Oscar II October 18 1877.

The station area is located at 628 m and the new station was opened in 2002, 125 years after the first station located in the same site.

The image was taken on a lazy Saturday afternoon this summer as the temperature rise above 30C, the trains we see are waiting to departure to Hamar (southbound) and Trondheim (northbound). The distance between Trondheim and Hamar is 431 km.

On January 4 2000 occurred one of the worst train accidents in Norway near 彎ta south of R鷨os, when a northbound multiple unit and a southbound passenger train collided on the line killing 19 people while 67 survived the tragedy.

The 彎ta train disaster is the second worst in Norway, after the Tretten disaster in 1975 killing 27 and injuring 25.

The workshop shows the old station building located next door.
