Photographer's Note
This is the third and last re-post of a photo from my journey to Bhutan in 2003. The colours of the original scan were awful, even though I didn't quite realize it then. A few months ago I made a new scan, and although it may not be perfect it's really so much better. At least that's what I think. You can think for yourself by clicking at the Original Version in the box to the right.
Here is the original note:
"A view of Trongsa dzong in central Bhutan. There is a dzong in basically every district of Bhutan. It's a fortresslike building containing the local administration and a monastery. In Bhutan the modern society and the religion, lamaism, live side by side on equal terms. The oldest parts of Trongsa dzong are from the 16th century.
Behind the dzong is the modern town of Trongsa. The building on the hillside in the upper right corner is a watchtower, called the ta dzong.
This is scanned from a Kodachrome slide."
I should add that even though the town looks so close we had to drive for another almost 15 km around the long valley to get there.

Hello Gert,
On my screen I don't immediately see a problem with the colours of your first scan. The photo appears to have been taken in better weather.
Of course you can know which of the two photos best matches reality.
What strikes me is that just about every building in this photo looks beautiful.
The same architecture of the dzong can be found in the houses of the newer village and the watchtower.
Places with a homogeneous architecture always please me.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Gert,
The trees are framing well the town. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Lots of green is lovely, but not always good. Yellow and red roofs are much better than green and brown. 😉
Seriously though, I love this view, one of the best dzong views of Bhutan.
Have a nice evening

Hej Gert,
Endnu en gang har billedet fået en meget mere erfaren behandling og dermed nogle langt bedre og mere naturlige farver. Bygningerne i bjergene er smukt indrammet af træerne i forgrunden.

Hi Gert,in fact it seems very close but the roads are certainly winding and uncomfortable in these hills. Your work was perfect, the colors seem almost the original ones and the view is priceless, I'm not very attracted to states like these, but some of your photos might make me change my mind. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Que beleza de vista esta. Impressionante mesmo, assim como aquelas fantasticas edificações da administração local e o imenso monastério. Imagino que você deve ter perdido o fôlego ao se deparar com esta vista. Belissimo trabalho !

Hello Gert, the dzong is very impressive nestled on the mountain-side and surrounded by trees.
Once again your skills at scanning have come to the fore.
A fascinating picture of an amazing place.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Gert
A good view of this beautiful area in Bhutan. Having a good guide is encouraging. The trees in the foreground and the mountains in the background have created good depth. Beautiful shot.

Hello Gert,
The dzong, and all the houses in the background, look lovely surrounded by all that greenery. It's a unique, and for me, exotic view, and those two trees frame each side of the foreground nicely, too.

Hi Gert
Definitely a better scan and much more natural colour as well. A country that has been on my list for a long time. Maybe one day but maybe not given how hilly it would be for aging legs.
cheers

Hi Gert.
What a splendid situation of this town, in a mountain landscape and leafy trees, the set of the monastery in the foreground is impressive and magnificent, how many constructions and varied volumes compose it.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Very well done. I love it.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.
