Photographer's Note

Situated on the grounds of Jianfu Temple, it stands 43m high with 15 progressively smaller tiers. Built in 707-709 AD, its main purpose was to securely hold the Buddhist (sutras) scriptures brought from India by the wandering monk XuanZang who set to translate them into 1335 Chinese large volumes. The pagoda lies intact except some corners which were shaken off by an earthquake in 1487, surviving 70 others.
