Photographer's Note
In contrast with my yesterdays post I want to show you that not everything in China changes. Just a little further in the alleys of the Hutongs there are still public washing rooms - although the price of these apartments is sky high there are no modern facilities like toilets - and it is very quiet. The Laundry you see in the photo is partly ours because this is the entrance of our little hotel around a courtyard in the Hutongs.

Hello Gerrit,
Except for the motorbikes and maybe some other small details this could easily have been taken in the 1980's. It's surprising that some of these blocks have been allowed to remain. The Chinese authorities seem so eager to pull down everything that doesn't reflect their ambitious plans. Very interesting.

Gert

Hi Gerrit,
Traditional looking alley so full of details. I like your off center framing with the road near the left edge. A bit surprising to see nobody there.

Hallo Gerrit,
Een uitstekende foto van een deel van het dagelijks leven in China. De foto is mooi verdeeld tussen het smalle straatje en de vele interessante details voor het huis op de voorgrond, waaronder de was aan de waslijn.

Hi Gerrit
It could have been taken recently - with no person to be seen. Another good hutong photo.
cheers

Hello Gerrit, Nice to see that not all the hutongs were demolished and some [arts of the traditional Beijing life is preserved. I remember the atmosphere of the place away from the busy streets, the people went around in pyjamas, it was amusing and nice. Excellent reportage.
Take care

The unknown side of Beijing, Gerrit, and you chosen to reside there, a real adventure, maybe.
Picture shows well the alley with many objects in multi colors display. Authentic...
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hello Gerrit,
I have loved perusing this photograph!
Though there is no-one in shot, it seems so very social, everything open, everything on view! It reminds me of the times when I used to visit my grandmother, when nothing seemed to be hidden, everyone was certain that what they had would be safe, even if on view publicly!
From modern times, it reminds me of a car boot sale. Lots of everyday things for sale at a reasonable price!
A fine composition. Lots of items for immediate interest and a good lead line to encourage us to explore further.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi
So the old chinese dwellings are still existing, only the motorbikes and bike show us that it's a recent picture. Life takes place in the narrow street as the houses are too small!
Best regards
CLODO
