Photographer's Note
"Hutong" is that means small lanes.
In the past, the city of Beijing was composed of many large and small sized Siheyuans (a combination of houses around a courtyard) face to face, back to back, side by side. Each line of a Siheyuan should leave a vacant path therefore people can go in and out easily, and the path is called Hutong (lane).
Old Beijingnese who live in hutongs look so close. they know each other, love each other and help each other. in summer, they enjoy staying at the path for chatting, for cool...

another nice one of the hutongs mingfang. (since you mix your series, perhaps you could set up a theme to group them together?) must be a tight knit community, i love these side lanes/back alleys in asia where "real life" happens. nice capture here of everyday life (maybe a step to the right?)

You must have been REAL close to the action with the 24mm: nicely framed slice f life in the Huton with the future in the background...old life being destroyed all arund these people, yet they go on anyway.
I love the entire series,
Francis
ps My problem of curse is that, after yesterday's "North of England way", I'm not sure how to proceed, if you know what I mean.

Very interesting note and picture, Mingfang!! Very nice people being so quiet together, expecially children. I agree with Mark: you should create a theme about hutong

Cool series Ming. I really like your ability to bring humanity to your photos of the streets. With a 24mm prime too? Pretty brave of you to go shooting with such a wide lens. I really like the effect of wide angle shooting myself. I like how it forces you to be close to the action.

Mingfang

Hi Mingfang. nice, intimate photo these Beijingnese. At first, I though you should maybe have shot with more of the right side showing, but now I think it is good with the open path on the left, like your note says, "a vacant path therefore people can go in and out easily."
Take care,
Narayan

A very well accomplished Hutong shot again, Mingfang, with a crop that works well! I love the little child so tender in the very corner, suckling perhaps, while you show this interesting milieu. I wish I could visit one day!

Hello Mingfang. This is well composed. I'm not particularly enchanted with the fact that the colours seem a bit dull, but after all they match the architecture (in a certain way), and they remind me the fact this is a country permanently changing where the past vanishes quickly to give place to the future. Good work.

Hi Mingfang, excellent shot. it's a little bit out of focus, but is not important in that image.
the lone perpetive and the interestin note about that small lanes and the people that live there is fantastic.
thanks, ciao

it is a very good picture of hutongs. I think that it give the impression of the ordinary and also traditional lives in China. I really enjoy it. However, I think it may be better if the overall picture can be clearer.
