Photographer's Note
This is Kowloon in Hong Kong, tonight, at 6:06 pm.
I have just returned from a short trip. I went with my two friends to Shek Kip Mei - it is an old district in Kowloon.
On Christmas Day in 1953 a fire broke out at the Shek Kip Mei Squatter Area and left more than 50,000 people homeless. After this fire British government started program of public housing. First low-cost public housing estates were built in Shek Kip Mei, they had 6 floors, common bathrooms in the corridor and balconies around the building, very characteristic blocks. There is still some of them in this area, mostly old people live there. I will try to post later a picture with those blocks.
There is a quite big hill in Shek Kip Mei from where you can see the whole city of Kowloon. If the weather is fine you can even see Hong Kong Island. We could see Hong Kong Island tonight.
If you want to see really different urban Hong Kong go to Shek Kip Mei.
Original shot, PS - rotation 1.5 degree, auto levels, auto colors, sharpening. I prepared this picture on my notebook, I hope it looks the same on normal monitors as on my LCD screen.

Amazing mixture of colors. I like that it's early evening so that only some windows are lit. The fading towards large distances works very well here. It's nice to see this kind of less well-kept buildings in a perspective like this. Most pictures I've seen from Hong Kong are fancy sky-scrapers or street scenes, here we see the quarters where I guess normal people live. I like it, thank you for sharing.

Very nice example of the ''jewel box effect''. Good decision not to include sky.
Would make a terrible ''puzzle'' ;-)

To widok z Twojego okna? Jeśli tak to przyznam ci się, że chyba nie chciałbym takiego mieć na stałe... Wolę swoje domowe okienko ;) Ale fota robi wrażenie, dobry kadr, dobra robota.

Impressive and informative shot. Beautiful sharp details and colors. Looks like being there! This is perfect for me. The line of higher buildings in the back is perfect to enhance your framing. Beautiful shot!

On the whole, various color --, however they are sentimental. Hong Kong resembles Tokyo. It is a favorite scene.

Very interesting urban night shot. It is full of details and colors. I like the way the house become more and more fuzzy in the background. Well seen!

A very fine night shot and a fine angle shooting diagonally across the city layout. No streets, no humans, just houses like a graphic pattern. Well done!

I really like this picture. Very intesting colors and subtil lights. The gradiant of saturation from bottom to top, added to the perspective is nice. Sharp! Well see! :-)

Another one of your supreme shots from Hongkong, Maciej. Everything is crisply sharp, and the colors and light look wonderful. I could spend a while exploring this fascinating pattern - every time I think I already saw everything, I seem to run into a new interesting detail. Very well done!

Interesting note and a big pleasure to walk my glance on the buildings of the city. Colours are sweet, the image is exposed well, I like very much your photo.
Int廨essante note et un grand plaisir de promener mon regard sur les b漮iments de la ville. Les couleurs sont douces, l'image est bien expos嶪, j'aime beaucoup votre photo.

Very very beautiful Maciej. Different from your usual shots that often include a human element, this time you succeeded very well in capturing the urban mood of a metropolis without any single person as your main motive. Excellent use of evening lighting, very good work!

This is a very beautiful shot. It is still hot, I can feel it! The composition, the colours are well-executed. I like the way the colours blend into the darkness.

Somewhat strangely, the appeal IMO is the absence of any particular focal point that attracts the eye. As a result, the eye perceives the picture 'as a whole' and, in a way, as an abstract.

Even if the shot has a lot of depth, the image looks flat and a bit abstract. Really amazing.

Tremendous work. Again, you have taken a simple observation, framed very well and made a great photograph.
A good slice of life from over on the 'dark side'.

I like this, the buildings are stacked whichever way with different heights, different designs and contrasting colours.
Interesting hilites on some of the bldgs thrown by street lighting etc

Wow, a very colorful and beautiful night shot, well seen. The picture is very nice like this but I would like to compare with another one cropped just over the first pink building and to see just a bit more on top of the photo, just curious, thanks for sharing.

Hi Maciej.
You have a very good work on this photo. The builginds... they look a jungle, a wild jungle with all those walls, windows, people and light.
But maybe is even more dangerous than a real jungle.
Regards.
