Photographer's Note

The Himalaya finds its easternmost extension in China, in the state of Yunnan. Here Yulong Xue Shan, the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, rises to 5596m above the Lijiang's Black Dragon Pool, in the park of the same name. The pool is also known as Yuquan (Jade Spring) due to the clear, pale green water which springs from the base of the surrounding hills.

The name Yunnan means "south of the clouds"; those same clouds form every day over Yulong Xue Shan and her fellow Himalayan outrunners, obscuring the view and making the brief opportunity of a glimpse of her summit into a very special moment indeed.
