On a hazy day, a photo from Guangxi, South

Photographer's Note

In 1986 I spent a few days by the Li river in Guangxi province, famous for its remarkable steep cliffs. Looking at my pictures, and checking in my diary, I recall that every day was cloudy and rainy and that the mountains were nearly always partly covered by clouds and haze. This picture, scanned from a Kodachrome slide, was taken somewhere near the town of Yangshuo.

Let's ignore the quality of the scan and concentrate on the shot itself. This weather suits here perfectly, the foggy atmosphere gives this scenery another dimension. The front looks so solid in comparison with the background, taken out from someones dream.
There's a halo around the mountain, was the sun behind it or it's just the vignette?

Hello Gert,
this is an absolutely interesting photo which, again, (I know, I know) really looks like a painting and reminds me of genuine Chinese paintings which I'd like to have at home and hang on the wall :) you know, the ones with mountains, hills, greenery, Chinese junks and houses... and branches of pine-trees. That's the impression.
Well, I see three planes (-grounds) in the photo: foreground, background and middleground, which makes the picture acquire depth, mystic air and a special "hazy" mood..

I just came across this fantastic image of one of the most interesting landscapes on this wonderful planet. You were so lucky with the haze because it creates such a fantastic atmosphere. The image looks almost unreal. Excellent photo work!

I know the qualit if not really that great, but this really bring back nice memories, I was here just last october and about 15 years ago, I was just amzed by how much has changed, I like it much better back then. You did a fine job with it, consider the haze and the scaning.

The haze made the giant rock seem even more imposing in the photo, Gert.
Scaled with the small hut on right side and the trees, also gave good sense of depth to the composition.
As with scanned pic. from old times, I never judge the outcome, yet we get to see the impressive landscape there.

Hello Gert,
This could have been the north of Vietnam although Malgo notes at my pictures that they could have been taken in China :)
The fog creates a special atmosphere and makes us dream of a mysterious land.
However, I fear that if I was on the spot, I probably would have cursed the fog again :)
