Photographer's Note
Taken at the entrance to Taj-ul-Masajid, the largest mosque in India, that is situated in Bhopal. It was started in the 19th century and finished around one century later.
Bhopal became famous for the worst possible reasons: it was here that the worst industrial disaster took place, a gas leak in a pesticide plant majority owned by Union Carbide Corporation. It was in december 1984 and almost 20.000 died from the disaster or from diseases related with it.
Bhopal is worth a visit and this mosque also. It was really hot to walk there barefoot, but I liked it.

Bonjour, Ana,

Saluti

Hi Ana
there are only 3 pages worth of phots of this city in TE, and only 2 or 3 photos of this large Mosque!
I wonder why there have been so few posted here.
without a doubt your post today is the best of the Mosque. I'd love to see more of it.
the pale blue colors are famous in some of the Indian cities, nice to see it here too.
the clouds fill out the frame nicely.
thanks for posting this unique scene.
cheers

Hello Ana,
I was here in 1991, only 7 years after the disaster. I don't quite recognize this entrance but otherwise I have clear memories from inside the mosque. I remember Bhopal as generally a rather nice city with a very good museum of contemporary art, which surprised me a lot. This is a very fine view with nice details and excellent colours. I like the look of the old man crossing the street. You were lucky to snap this a brief moment before the motorbike would have disappeared.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Ana,
I remember the toxic disaster in 1984 and the extremely long struggle of the victims in order that company Union Carbide would take responsibility for the disaster.
Bhopal is a name that long dominated the news but for a very long time I haven't heard of it anymore. I also never met a traveler who has been there.
This picture shows a much more optimistic image of the city. I like the smile of the guys on the motorbike, presumably they were not yet there at the time of the catastrophe.
The mosque looks very huge. Too bad the domes couldn't be included on the picture.
The clouds in the sky reveal a beautiful weather.
Well composed and beautiful natural colours.
Best regards, Paul

Hola Ana.
Calidos saludos.
Luis.

Hello Ana
As you say, Bhopal is famous for all the wrong reasons. I should say infamous. And I don't think I've seen photographs from here before. So it's good to show this place. It looks normal! People are going about their everyday business, the sun is shining, the architecture is beautiful. I wonder if anyone's ever posted photographs from Chernobyl...

ola Ana,
I remember the Bhopal disaster, some long time before people around the world became aware of the environmental-hazards of Chemical and other notorious factories around our planet.
Taken a wonderful pic. at the gate of the impressive mosque and walls, white and brown mingle beautifully, and some street action as well.
Bom domingo,
Ike

Hello Ana,
Great photo of the mosque, the composition is really good with the road leading up towards the gate. The light and blue sky and clouds are wonderful too. I like the inclusion of the people to add an idea of daily life.

Hi Ana
Such a sad human tragedy and the pictures of the victims will forever haunt us, tks for uploading this shot and a reminder that capitalism unfettered and insane. Whereas Union Carbide still survives, the locals I believe still struggle daily with the challenge of contaminated land and water. And this same system repeats itself in poorest places but not in the developed world!!!
As for this shot, it's speckless, sublime in colours and clarity as well as strong compositionally with the placement of the minaret is spot on at the third. Human presence has been captured at exactly the right moment in that gap in between. A delightful photo, enjoyed this a bundle and a very interesting piece of work also a lovely narrative. How vulnerable our little world is!! Great photo work, Congrats.
Best regards
Angshu

jorge
