Peacock Watching for Food at Kanha (MP), a photo from Madhya Pradesh, Central

Hello my dear friends,

I shot this beautiful bird in the first week of April, 2013 when I traveled at Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh. This is my first visit at Kanha. It is the largest sanctuary in India. We started our safari in morning when all the animals specially birds were active by their nature. This peacock was watching its food in a bush area.

The male Indian peacock has iridescent blue or green-colored plumage. The peacock tail is not the tail quill feathers but the highly elongated upper tail covert feathers. The eyes are best seen when the peacock fans its tail. Both species have a crest atop the head. The female Indian peahen has a mixture of dull grey, brown, and green in her plumage. Although she lacks the long upper tail coverts of the male, she has a crest. The female also displays her plumage to ward off female competition or signal danger to her young.

Peacock is the National Bird in India.

I got an opportunity to shoot this beautiful and young bird.

Well framed and presented with a panoramic format, difficult light contrast with this BG, nice colors for this bird.

A horizontal cropped pic., exactly fit the length of the peacock, Swapan.
A magnificent bird, no photographer would stay indifferent when seeing it.
Light was probably very strong, assuming the strong contrast on the image.

Hello Roy,

On three hundred meter of my house life a Peacock, every morning hear I are sound.
This are very lovely birds, certainly when the nice tail goes completely open.
Excellent captured, also lovely presentation.

What a beautiful creature Swapan, that male peacock individual is searching invertebraes, seeds and small reptiles in the dead leaves. Great report Kanha, the land of the tigers

J'aime beaucoup le format choisit pour cette image. Le format panoramique suit bien la ligne de l'oiseau aux longues plumes bleues. J'aime la texture de l'ensemble.

Hello Swapan,
these attractive birds are usually shown displaying their tail feathers so it`s rather pleasing to see this pano format from the side showing the actual size of the peacock .
