Cinema Hall : The old style cinema halls in Calcutta have taken a back seat after the advent of multiplexes in the city at the turn of the millennium. Previously till the nineties,Central Calcutta had more than twenty cinema halls within the close vicinity of the Esplanade area.As of now only a few cinema halls are operational,which includes the Paradise Cinema Hall on Bentinck Street.In this image you can see the Paradise cinema Hall featuring one of the latest Bollywood Movies,Ram Leela.It is hard to believe but many of these old cinema halls have been turned into shopping complexes like City Mart in place of Lighthouse Cinema Hall or another mart in place of what was previously Tiger Cinema Hall.One of my favorites,Jamuna Cinema Hall has been turned into a Banquet Hall.

Hello Farhat,
The afternoon show doesn't seem to attract any large crowds, but the handful of people waiting to buy tickets, or just passing by, still provide enough life and colour to make this an enjoyable view. The huge posters for the current movie and the typical yellow taxi also brighten the photo.

The vividly coloured hoardings are a real eye-catcher and nicely complement the passing yellow taxi. I like the point of view and the livley atmosphere.

Hello farhat,
Nice taken street scenery, with the notable movie sign.
It doe's contrast to the decayed plaster coating of the house near by. Yet, people gave vibrant and vivid tones on the photo.

Hi Farhat,
I like this idea of covering the whole exterior of the building with the ad for the movie, that's different from what I would normally see. This scene is brimming with life and color, I like it a lot. The taxi in the corner adds a lot to it.

Hello Farhat,

You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/ckaruty, so it's impressive by see the cinema hall with a big advertisement and many people in front of there. I know that India is manufacturing many movies. Now, an entertainment industry changes to the Internet, television, a game, etc., and film producing industry seems to decline also in what country.

Nice shot and description of these yester year gems of Kolkata. Alas there is no crowd for a newly released movie. A few years back a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie would have opened to huge crowds...sadly this is what piracy has done to the movie halls. This one will also down shutters soon...good you have captured it in time.

it's sad to lose cinemas that have made part of your daily life and memories, I know the feeling from Athens which faces the same reality of multiplexes swallowing up small cinemas. Fortunately there still are some that resist. I like your picture very much, how it juxtaposes the alluring film poster with daily life reality. There's a nice sense of movement, great depth and sharpness. The yellow taxi is a fine addition, it brings in a delightful bright colour and enriches the scene. Hi Farhat,

A pity isn't it, when these old style cinemas are overtaken by the multiplexes? Glad you still have this one to show, and it certainly stands out here with the bold red movie advertisement. Even with just the single taxi in view, this street scene feels lively, and the theater adds a touch of nostalgia.

I really like this idea of showing us something a bit different and even unexpected, especially since it turned out this well. Good angle too, i think it suits the visual much better than a straight on composition. Nicely done indeed!

Nice interesting scene of the street in Calcutta. Nice POV showing the front of the cinema and the people milling about. The real eye catcher in the shot is the vivid yellow taxi. An old Morris Oxford maybe.

Hi Farhat,
it feels like a photo taken ages ago. The movie ads are so colorful and they contrast well with the rather grayish surrounding of damaged houses. The yellow car is also old stylish contributing to this atmosphere. There seem to be plenty of people around and all in pretty colorful clothes. Very attractive street scene, well seen and captured,

With large and eye-catching advertisements, it attracts people to watch movie. I know India movies have a lot of beautiful dancing and singing. Yes, they are from Bollywood.

A good daily life catch of the Bollywood cinema with the dramatic romance scene on the front reminding me of Gone with the Wind. Good color, sharpness and saturation and the diagonal road adds good lead in lines and perspective. Tfs!
