Photographer's Note

After lying in neglect for many years, the parks and the walkway on the eastern bank of the river Hogghly (Ganges) were partially renovated in 2001. One of the many British legacies of Calcutta. If you look closely (Right click for a larger image) you can see the faint outlines of the old Howrah Bridge. I find it a lovely relaxing place, especially in winter.

Hello Satya,
I like the composition very much with the promenade placed obliquely and the repeating lamp standards creating a fine long perspective. The man contemplating the peaceful scene in front of him contributes much to the mood of the image. Very agreeable soft lights and colours and excellent clarity. I can see why you enjoy walking there. Thanks for sharing this most appealing composition.

Hello Satya,

We get a wonderful panorama sight about the river and the different boats.
Also the handrail were we see the man, gives a nice perspective and depth image.
Sharpness and clarity be superb.
An excellent composition, I like the wonderful colours.

Hello Satya,
Another great composition from Calcutta with a superbly captured atmosphere of early evening. The railing and lampposts going on a diagonal give the photo fine depth, and the man watching the river is well placed and contributes nicely to the pleasant atmosphere. Among my strongest memories from Calcutta are the crows gathering in the trees at nightfall, so I really enjoy seeing a couple of them here.

I can see why this would be so relaxing in winter, in summer I guess these big trees will block this lovely serene view. I like those modern lamps too, an unusual and interesting design. The man leaning on the balustrade gives a good sense of how people enjoy this place in their daily lives.

Hello Satya,

The walkway does have echoes of Britain with its balustrades and tall lamp standards. It's a beautifully composed photograph with good leads and a fine sense of perspective.
I like how the man's gaze makes a direct link with the boats.
I think I would enjoy leaning on the balustrade, watching life go by on the river.
