Photographer's Note

Now a photograph from my hometown, Kolkata (Calcutta).

Durga Puja is the main festival of us, Bengalis and is celebrated for five days, in the months of September/ October each year. This festival epitomises the triumph of good over evil. Goddess Durga, riding a lion & armed with weapons in her ten hands, slains the evil Asura . The goddess is flanked by her children, Ganesha, Laksmi, Saraswati & Kartik.

The idols are made of clay & Durga Puja offers an avenue for various artists (even Art Students) to bring out their creative juices in designing and making the idols.

This shot was taken in a small community Puja in Kolkata. The Durga image depicted here is of a fairly traditional style. The two priests in the foreground are busy arranging flowers for the worship.
