Shepherd of Baghmundi, a photo from West Bengal, East

Photographer's Note

The shepherd boy is keeping vigil over his herd from a distance.
This is a typical ambiance of hilly terrain of Purulia district (West Bengal, India). Note the colour of the soil, it is reddish. Presence of iron-oxide is responsible for this. Though this area receives significantly less rainfall, thanks to high fertility of the red soil, they are not barren. The white dots behind the boy is 岞ohua� (Madhuca longifolia). This is the most important flower for the local tribals. Collection and selling of Mohua is a common profession of the villagers.

hello Alekhya,
a very warm welcome to TE. You entered here with a nice photograph. The natural beauty of the land of red soil is always worth seeing and here we can see a glimpse of it. Beautiful colours. Nice composition with the shepherd (though it will be better if there are some cattle in the frame) and those trees in background. Nice to see the smoker coming out from the burned dry leafs. Like the clarity of your image and depth of it... A very nice one. Thanks for sharing, hope to see some beautiful photos from you...

This is a fine shot,taken from a good position that allows you to place the young shepherd nicely in the FG from where he can watch the sheep grazing amongst the trees.
It`s nice to see the background environment in a thoughtfully composed photograph.Technically it is very good,as is your note.Well done.

Your vantage point for this picture is very good from the boy through the smoke and off into the distance ... placing the forest on the right side is great. Hi Alekhya, Wonderful image with detail note provided. I like the composition very much, it simply tells the daily routine life of the countryside. The boy sat there keeping eye on his herd brings out the soul of this image. The smoke from the soil adds extra life in the frame. Awesome natural colours and very good POV with great sense of depth. l'India si presenta con paesaggi molto diversi tra loro e realt� locali assai differenti le une dalle altre e te hai il pregio di rappresentarle nei loro vari aspetti.
In questa � ben fatta la composizione anche grazie alla presenza in evidenza del pastorello ed i colori leggermente sfumati rendono bene il clima e la particolarit� del suolo che hai saputo descrivere molto bene nelle note.
Molto buoni anche contrasto e nitidezza,
