Photographer's Note
Varanasi, also commonly known as Benares or Banaras , and Kashi , is a city situated on the left (west) bank of the River Ganga (Ganges) in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, regarded as holy by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. It is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world.
The name Varanasi, has its origin possibly from the names of the two rivers Varuna and Assi for it lies with the confluence of Varuna with the Ganges being to its north and that of Assi and the Ganges to its south. Another speculation about the origin of the name is that the river Varuna itself was called Varanasi in olden times, from where the city got its name. This is generally disregarded by historians though there may be some earlier texts suggesting it to be so.
Hope you like it.

Great scene, delightful dark mood.
But about the frame : maybe the black one could be better.
Best regards. Grazyna.

hello denis
this is an excellent one of an indian daily life street scene
Quite appropriate that you choosed b&w here, also I like your grey frame quite in the mood of the image
Just relly too bad that your participation to TE community is so extremely low, about one critic every 6 months. That leaves quite some time to think about what to say!

the tones of this work very well. the different shades of gray, and none of the whites are washed out. what post processing program are you using?
the composition works very well, the two dogs and the man working to divide the frame into threes...

Hello Denis, greetings!
Expressive atmosphere captured in this exposure. I like this, uncertain appearance scene. Great shot !

yeah the ground slopes in the alleys..it must have been a good photowalk for you..connecting..is a bit difficult..as a tourist becomes a centre of attraction unlike other parts of the world...
One tends to disturb the natural scene..the elements..the thing about street is remain invisible to the people and place around you and yet keep the viewer of this shot engaged..
i found this yesterday..from luko way back

Hi Denis,
I can't quite describe what I feel about this one, but I think someday someone will recognize this as an outstanding work of photographic art and it may in fact appear in a gallery somewhere someday - classic, a story, a life, a culture - great black and white too. TFS. Gerald
