Photographer's Note

On the banks of Ganges, I met this Sadhu who was kind enough to let me take his photos.

QUESTIION FOR THE VIEWERS:
I have a photo exhibition coming up in September and I was thinking about exhibiting this photo, any recommendations with regards to how I should crop it or process it would be highly appreciated.

I am sorry about the lack of time that i have been devoting to TE lately. I am leaving on a trip to India again in something like three weeks, so the planning and logisitcs of that is keeping me busy. Once again, thanks for dropping by .... Cheers !!!

i think the BG is okay.. is like shooting on a shade.. so the bg should be bright.. i like the colour and everything.. if u come closer to the subject u'll just make it uneasy and u would get a good shot..

Yeah, i find the backround to be a bit bright as well Sarju. I uess you could do some pp, select the backround and darken it somehow.
What i would do, would be to make the frame as tight as possible and eliminate as much background as possible. For me, the photo is all about the hair and the eyes so it would be good to get as close to the action as possible (thats my opinion).

I've done a workshop to show you what I mean. The blackand white workshop is a good alternative as well.

I like the crop by stiginthedump, but the B&W conversion by Lucian is my favorite. I think the background is just too washed out and distracting for color. The look you have captured here is very intense and I think B&W would be very suitable for this shot. Good luck with your exhibition, and your trip to India.

I don`t know if I can help you with the recommendations,but I will tell you my opinion.
For me,the BG is disturbing(is very bright),maybe another point of view or more closer approach to the subject.Or if you convert it in B&W and bright a bit his face.I know...is representative to show the picture in color version for his face paintings,but the choice remains only yours.I`ll try a WS.I don`t know what kind of exhibition is all about,perhaps you should tell us about it,perhaps the photo will fit as a presentation.

Hello Sarju,

I liked the look of this sadhu as you have gotr it...I( lked the colours very much..the sharpness is a bit compromised and I liked all the WSs been given here but I would not like to turn down the colours here as it has vibrant colours and they shud be retained..I am also trying oyut a WS..lets see if you like it..its just a try.. and my perspective..!!

Sarju this mans facial features are simply outstanding. I love the color and mood here. Almost looks a little scary in a way. Next year I have been offered an invitation to join some of my East Indian friends from work and head to India for a month. Should I take them up on the offer? I am a little nervous if I meet people like this!

Well, Sarju, he's certainly not a salariman :-)
Penetrating gaze... the colours... a captivating expression...
I like the crop very much, not much not less imo. Nicely framed! What I would do is just a bit of darkening in the background as that one looks slightly overexposed, which of course is totally understandable, given the light conditions. A great portrait, dear friend. Would love to meet him on Bank Street too!

Wow, so many workhops! I actually find the exercise of Indro, interesting, although not so realistic.
Hi Sarju! How are you? I've been away from TE, desintoxicating for 17 days and returned today. I saw the your plans on your intro and I find the trip awesome - it will be the silk route, right?
Are you stil in Canada?
About the photo, I think it's too central here. I like very much the crop on the print...may be a little bit less cropped...

Great shot,easily distracted by the bright background,as already stated.
I will like to see some sparkle in his eyes.
Just gave a look at the WS.and wow,do I like the one done by Indro,the contrast tthere just it me squarely in the face.

So,you are leaving again.I wish I could move like you are doing,eventually,at retirement.
Give me a call when you come back,for a meeting somewhere,to hear your latest adventure.

I think the shadow could be little more in the picture. The background looks too bright for the sadhu. But thats just me. This is a fantastic portrait. The Man's expression speaks a lot.
