Photographer's Note
Dear my friends,
This was my first time visit at Hampi in the state of Karnataka, India. I traveled at the end of January, 2012. Actually this is a ruined city of India.
In ancient time its name was Vijaya Nagara. It is in Bellary District, state of Karnataka in India. It is the name of the now ruined capital city that surrounds modern-day Hampi, of the historic Vijayanagara empire which extended over the southern part of India.
In around 1500 AD Vijaynagar had 500,000 inhabitants, probably making it the second largest city in the world after Peking-Beijing and twice the size of Paris back then. The city flourished between the 14th century and 16th century, during the height of the power of the Vijayanagar empire. The ruins are now a World Heritage Site.
The exhibited picture is an elephant stables. A set of large stables, to house the ceremonial elephants of the royal household. The area in front of them was a parade ground for the elephants, and for troops.
I hope you enjoy it.
best wishes to all,
swapankumarroy

Ely

Hello Swapan,
I like how you have used the tree and its shadow cleverly to balance the composition by framing the row of elephant stables on both sides. The old stables look so beautifully decorated that I could have imagined them to be part of a temple. The midday sun is very strong but yet the colours are pleasantly mild and the contrasts are well handled. It's artistically and technically a well taken photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Swapan,
an original and elegant composition, a very interesting building in the background. The elephant stables look majestic, your framing makes the building look endless. The tree is a wonderful addition, filling the upper part with its foliage and the foreground with its shadow. It adds depth, balance and interest but also leads us to better focus on the building. The colours and the shadows are lovely. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello Swapan,
A good view of that original monument (I guess there are stables all over the world, but it is rare they are monumental and even more rare that they are of elephants). You chose a good POV and made a good job with the harsh light.
Regards, José.

Hello Swapan,
the tree and it`s shadow make a fine frame for the elephant stables the architectural features of which are very interesting.
The strong light has been used to very good effect with lots of detail throughout.

Hello Swapan,
Interesting notes to accompany this fine photograph.
I never ever considered elephants having stables but, as such trusty and useful servants, like horses, they would need to be cared for.
You have placed the tree perfectly in the frame, on the thirds line, so that it creates a fine sense of depth to the b/g stables. The low light produces an excellent shadow.

Hello Swapan, Lovely view of the stables in Hampi. The domes looks similar but in fact all are different. good there is grass there, it is so difficult to go bare foot on the stones in a hot day. I visited many temples in South India but unfortunately not Hampi, I know it is very interesting. Thanks for sharing

Hello Swapan,
I like the long perspective along these well preserved stables and the repeating motifs offered by the successive arches. Also, the warm light and colours. The visitors bring the scene to life and offer a sense of scale.

Hi Swapan!
I guess it's the first time I see something like this, but I've never been to Karnataka. Very interesting shot, you framed the stables very well with the tree and shadow. Good light and colours. I wonder how this place was in the old days.

Hi Swaoan,
The tree is helping to frame the stables. The point of view is showing the details of the stables. The light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Swapan
Nice repetition of the domes on this unusual stable for elephants. Good sharpness and excellent color and saturation. The red tinted stone and earth contrast well with the blue sky. The people provide scale. Tfs!
