Photographer's Note

Kochi, situated on the south-west coast of India, is one of the important cities in the subcontinent. Blessed with one of the finest natural harbors of the world and being in the strategic location on the east-west trade route, Kochi has always attracted sailing visitors. A trading port since Roman times, it lies on the main trade route between Europe and China. Portuguese, Dutch, Arabs, Chinese and British, all have left their mark here and today Kochi is a blend of various creeds and cultures. The Chinese fishing nets, still widely used for fishing in the backwaters and shore lines around Kochi, illustrate a centuries old link between India and China. Besides being the main fishing accessory at Kochi, chinese fishing nets also form a major tourist attraction. The water body covered with Chinese fishing nets at sunset makes a tranquilizing scene to the tourists.
