Photographer's Note
My stay in Varkala town was only one night, but I was very lucky. Because my local friend talked me with excitement, "Tonight, we can see lots of Elephants!!" I couldn’t understand at all what he meant. Because Varkala is a very fantastic beach resort area. He said, "It’s Elephant Festival..! At the center of Varkala town, we enjoy the parade of Elephants with great decoration. Must see them!!" So we went for that. When we got to the open space of Festival, I was very surprised at the crowd…, plus only local ppl was around there… every Indian was staring at me... I was a bit tense, but I could enjoy the exciting atmosphere after all.
Picture tells that men lighted torches and the festival was gonna begin soon!

excellent capture noriko
the colours are amaing and your composition is very journalistic. what shutter speed and aprerture did you use for this shot noriko. you didnt push the film did you?
dont worry about the people staring at you. it most likely must been out just out of curiosity. it's rare to see a japanese tourist being as adventurous as you :)
take care and post more stuff from india
take care :)

Your composition is full of action, and the colors are great - a beautiful shot, very well done. It's amazing how well balanced your exposure is under these light conditions.

Very interesting shot of the Elephant Festival, Great ricopin-san! Two Elephants, two fire men, two kinds of light of green and red. I especially like this lighting.
Composition also suits the way of the golden section. Excellent.

very atmospheric shot, with interesting nightly hues all around. Almost looks like a movie set, and you captured well the bustling of activites and people in an indian ceremony
