Photographer's Note
I took this pix early in the morning when people came to the shore temple (in Mamallapuram) to pray.
This is really typical and magical in India that people are charmed to be models and I love this way of communication

I do enjoy this image. I found it charming the way whole families line up to have a group portrait taken. It is interesting to see how each person expresses themselves through their body language.

Nice group picture, and with a lot of history behind, the most ancient vestiges of Dynastic indian religious Art, though it's not the Shore Temple, but the Temple Chariots.
I think this pix is like the first ones that imprint this civilization in our psyche as youngsters. Dark skinned people in long clothes, with multi-faceted temples and a symbolism that eludes us for many decades.
The 2 figures in white in the background do help make a symbiotic relation between temples and people, separated by so many centuries but the place actually quite relevant still to their inner lives.

Mostly Tamiliens they freeze up and pose as soon as they see a camera like you show here. Even the lady in the middle greets respectfully with her hands fold together like to say 'Wanakkam' or welcome. The background buildings are indeed 'The Five Rathas' build by the Pallava-kings representing the five chariots used by the Pandavas and four of them are made of one single rock. The style here created was adopted to all the temples all over Tamil Nadu. As it was taken in 1995 there was no fence to the premisses and Tamil families went to visit on Sundays. Now only tourists come as the income fee keeps Tamiliens away.
