Photographer's Note
People in the slums have a one room house which is a used as a drawing room, kitchen, bedroom. Families with more than three or four people, the male members sleep on the narrow streets outside their house.

superb catch Ashit.
nice POV, light and color tones. i like the way your POV allows to see the profile of the narrow street and daily activities therein.
Thanks, Arnab

Fine street scene Ashit, with excellent color and details. Most importantly, of course, is that you show us the challenges of life faced by many of the poor in India. This certainly isn't representative of all of India, but great poverty certainly exists in this country with over a billion inhabitants.
You give us excellent depth of field here as well, so that we can view the entire scene in this narrow "street." To me it seems more an alley than a street. The woman in her brightly colored sari, the man kneeling in the distance, the dog peering at you from the side, the broken stone pavement, the two boys holding each other on the narrow bed, all work together. Thanks for sharing your work with us, and welcome to TE. I note you've been around for a while, but this is the first time our paths have crossed. Greetings.

Good reportage photo.
I like how you catch the feel of that place using wide lens.
Really nice one.
I make B&W version. Cannot say that B&W is better or not, please take it only like "other variant"

Very nice scene, well captured; good exposure and DOF.
What scanner are you using to scan your negatives?

Beautiful scene, filled with small details (the cropped dog, looking at you, is fantastic). I could let myself go in your photograph, wandering along this street discovering each detail inch by inch. The depth of field is very well managed, an action in successive layers. Very fine work.

i like this image ashit, very common scene, but well captured here. Only wish you could post a bigger one. I am very partial to color, but I looked at the WS done, it's very godd in b&w. the way the dog is looking at us.. great capture. Good note too.

this is a brilliant photograph...
perhaps your best till now
what i like about it , is that it doesn't really have the feel of poverty as such . you know wven though you've caught it..
i think it's been taken really delicately and can be used for a photobook on gujarat and not necessarily for some poverty related issue.
that said.. i also realise that this is a good documentary photograph
i think this would have looked really good in black and white
have a look this
photograph by raghu rai. not the same scene, a little different, but you can see the effect of the black and white here
another thing that i really like here is the dog..
it's very mccurryish to have a dog somewhere in a scene like this
this is really a great photograph
take care :)

Du très grand travail !

Very nice docu photo. I am amazed by the sleeping couple: how naked, how entwined, how vulnerable, how dirty the pillow...
The entire photo is amazing, how it contains interesting elements top to bottom. The dog of course adds something.
The colour looks a little pale, but maybe that's personal preference.

Another nice shot, Ash. I like the wide angle; any different and it would've ruined the scene.

Cette photo me touche, pauvres gens. Pour ma part, le petit chien, je le trouve de trop, je trouve que ça aurait été mieux au complet ou pas d tout.

Une image de misère, de pauvreté, de tristesse. Très belle et très triste photo-reportage. Amitiés, Patty.

Really excellent Ashit, a great daily life catch. I also enjoy the presence of the dog on the left. Rendered well with the W Angle lens.
