Photographer's Note
In India, towards the west in Mumbai, we enjoy a love-hate relationship with the rains. The moment the boiler days of May and June become unbearable, everyone asks everyone: Wonder when it will rain this year? Solace is to be had by shared misery and tch-tching: God knows when. That eager anticipation lasts only until the first spell of heavy rain.
Of course in Mumbai, when it pours, chaos reigns everywhere. Except for a privileged few, it's pure misery for most citizens, especially suburbanites. If the water is not leaking through the ceiling, walls, floor or windows of your damp flat, the building foyer will be full of wading kids, swimming dogs and plastic bags and the lift will stand its ground as you pant up and down.
However, some kids are above such miserable feelings. All over the world, most children have a deep affinity for water. They are fascinated by how it moves, feels, and even tastes. But perhaps its strongest draw is the chance it offers to experience the "science of change."
Just watch a child play with a stick and a puddle, and you will see the science of change in action! Water has the unique effect of changing almost everything it comes in contact with.
Water is one of the first few things with which kids love to experiment - "What will happen if....?
These two coming from slums of Mumbai were no exception. This was a Chowpatty Beach that I tried to their experiments.

Hello Satyakki,
A very human document, and superbly presented in a fine composition, making good use of the reflection. Fine dark tones of the children against the delicate grey tones of the background.

A nice documentary. You are very true. Kids are always attracted towards running water, water in puddles, playing with tadpoles, making paper boats and sailing the. Good composition. The choice of black and white was good.

Hello Satyakki,
I believe that sometimes colors distract the mind from the main message of a photo. As a B&W photos lover, I really like the black and white tones of this shot. Well done!

Abbas

Hi Satyakki,
That's a wonderful shot in your gallery, a very warm and emotional one. Fine composition with the two small figures and their reflections in that puddle. Excellent note too, kids will be kids:)
Enjoy the weekend,
Marina
