Photographer's Note
"Taragarh Fort must have been built by angels not by human beings," commented Rudyard Kipling.
It looks beautiful. A steep climb up the hill, then through enormous gates decorated with elephants which are now in ruins, we were inside the Taragarh Fort of Bundi. In its heydays this fort was well known for the tunnels criss-crossing the entire hill side facilitating the King and his men to flee in case of imminent defeat in wars. Most of the tunnels are blocked with rubbles now.
The Taragarh Fort, or 'Star Fort' is the most impressive of the city's structures. It was constructed in AD 1354 upon the top of steep hillside overlooking the city. The largest of its battlements is the 16th century bastion known as the Bhim Burj, on which was once mounted a particularly large cannon called Garbh Gunjam, or 'Thunder from the Womb'. The fort is a popular tourist viewpoint of the city below. The fort contains three tanks which never dry up. The technique with which they were built has been long since lost but the tanks survive as a testament to the advanced methods of construction and engineering in medieval India.
In ancient times, the area around Bundi was apparently inhabited by various local tribes, of which the Parihar Meenas were prominent. Bundi and the eponymous princely state are said to derive their names from a former Meena king called Bunda Meena. Bundi was previously called "Bunda-Ka-Nal", Nal meaning "narrow ways".
The Bundi’s Garh Palace which is situated on the hillside adjacent to the Taragarh Fort, is entered through the Hathi Pole (Elephant Gate) into a small courtyard. This picture is taken from the courtyard, so we’re actually looking out of the palace/fort from this POV. The trunks of the elephants can be seen as silhouettes on the upper part of the gate. The view of the gate from outside can be seen in the Workshop. Beautiful murals adorn the ceiling of this gate and the primary ‘subject’- the sun, in the centre.

Hello Angshuman,
Despite a lack of sharpness, I like this picture, especially the point of view you choose. This gate seems to be so tall, and we can see the nice ceiling.

Hi Angshuman,
Fantastic gate, but the people are admiring something elese, probably the view. fantastic composition.
Indeed, Bundi is on a circuit lesser known. I like the places that lie outside main tourist road but it would be too far for me to go to Bundi. I am already counting the days to my Indian journey.

The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The point of view is allowing us to admire the architecture of that area of the fort. The intensity of the light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Indian architecture all seems remarkably ornate. The intricate decoration on the gate is stunning. I like the way the man is staring up as if he is looking at the elephants' trunks. There is no way you can avoid the perspective distortion of such a tall building.

Hello Mr. B,
The low vantage point, the wide angle lens and excellent light management has helped to produce and unusual example of two-point perspective. It is unusual in that in choosing a symmetric perspective, the "parallel" lines of the ceiling all converge at one point on the horizon line. Meanwhile, the vertical lines converge at a high point in the sky. What an effective way to accentuate the height. The note, as usual, is surpassing.
Warm regards, Mr. B,
Bulent

Hello Angshu
Thank you for the detailed comment.
A large image sharpness of the image and tight framing show, with lighting, all the details of architecture.
The brightly lit background gives life to the image.

Hi Angshu!
Thanks to you my friend, I have visited beautiful Bundi and came back with a great impression from this city and also some of my favorite photos from my visit in India.
I have visited this fort in two occasions - did you get yourself a stick to keep the monkeys away from you???... :-P) - and I think it's splendid, both for its architecture and its location.
Your photo shows the fine carving and ornaments that adorn the castle. Tight vertical framing that conveys a sense of elevation; the fact that the main subject is looking up also goes hand in hand with the orientation of your photo.
This photographic approach, shooting from a darker spot in direction of outside light, is often difficult to manage but you did it very well here.
Namaste!
André
