Photographer's Note
Road to Darjeeling - IV : This shot was taken near Goethals school on way to Darjeeling from Kurseong. In this shot you can see a couple young men sitting outside a building beside the toytrain track.A toy train in colors is approaching from behind the curve and moving down the hill towards Kurseong station. This is the latest and the last edition from the mini-series Road to Darjeeling and I have tried to keep it as a black and white shot as much as possible given the fact that it is my 150th upload on Treakearth.I hope you like this one too as you liked my 100 th upload a few months back.
Some tidbits about Goethals Memorial School :
Goethals Memorial School is a boarding school run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers in India. It is set in a forest 5 km (3 miles) from Kurseong between Siliguri and Darjeeling at an altitude of 1674 meters (5500 feet) above sea level. The school was founded in 1907, and is named after Jesuit Archbishop of Calcutta (now Kolkata), Paul Goethals. The land for the school was donated by the Maharaja of Bardhaman. On the death of Paul Goethals, Archbishop of Calcutta, in July 1901 the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta commemorated his memory by the establishment of an educational institution for boys in Kurseong.

Good evening Farhat,
You made me lough a bit: someone is selling mice on the way to Darjeeling... and two young men wait for ride to the airforce base few km's along.
Nice idea to divid the image between B&W scene with colors on the train side's.
Nice daily-life scene along the Road to Darjeeling.

Hello Farhat,
Interesting choice of partial colour. I have to say I don't know whether I like it or not - it tends to put the emphasis on the train whereas in my mind the more interesting part of the shot lies with the two men and the wooden building. I like the composition very much but, personally, I would have made the whole image black and white. All a matter of personal taste.

Hello Farhat
You don't lack imaginativeness, my friend, for showing unemployment in black juxtaposed to the colourful symbol of transportation taking people to work!!
Judicious artistic thought indeed and fine depiction!
Cheers.

Hello Farhat,
I love it! I have left certain objects in color and turned the rest of the photo to B&W, but I have not thought about dividing it into color and B&W regions. Thanks for the lesson, I'll see if I can find a nice application for this variation of a technique you just taught me!

MT

Hello Farhat
The partial desaturation to b&w works well here and the gradual rather than abrupt change from color to B&W has been done well in photoshop. Excellent sharpness and tonal range with good shadow detail. Tfs!

Hi
I wish it was all black and white illustration, photography, color and black and white idea, in some cases, to criticize or third place, the emphasis is used
Appreciate the effort for this photo
Good luck

Hi Farhat,
Another great shot from your series On the road to Darjeeling . Very unusual presenting this in half colour and half B&W but very effective with the coloured train coming round the corner. Like the way you have used people in these shots which adds extra interest. Nice work.

Arthur.

The toy train looks real enough. Nicely captured with good lighting in spite of what looks like a cloudy day. Good details. Well done, tfs.

I'm surprised, but the building resembles wooden houses in Sozopol, Bulgaria. And this is yet another end of the world. Well captured and presented.

Hi Farhat,
I already told you once that your photo skill improved very much. This photo is an excellent example. I like it.
The use of selective colour is a real stand out. A photo with a balanced composition and very good depth of field. Very well done my friend.
Greetings,
Miro
p.s. after one week I'm going to pay visit to your country, but the other side from you, the beautiful Kerala in south-west.

Hello Farhat,
You're capturing well this place by a good composition, effective partial colors and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the local toy train and the tasteful building at right side. It's also impressive that here is located at highland. And, sitting men outside building draws out a good impact in this image.
Kind regards,
mikio
