Hi Sohrab. I think the scan isn't so good but the photo still looks great. the composition is wonderful, with few elements, simple. But you put us so close to the man... bathing with him. I like the water falling off the man. The 2 scenes, the man in the disturbed water and the man fishing in the calm, unmolested water... 2 different moods. the slight vignetting is a nice little touch.

Hello Sohrab,
I was waiting for your post. May be that is why I am first here. I like the motion in this picture, the early morning mist which almost vanishes the horizontal line and the vignetting effect through the borders. The contrast though, may be because of the light was not enough in the early morning or the scanning was not good enough.

i love that shot sohrab! the contrast between the foreground full of action, and the still background with the fisherman going on with his daily life is just amazingly good... An excellent shot, worthwhile any grand photographer! congratulations for this one my friend!
Greetings for you and your family for this ending year and upcoming 2006

An excellent, strong work, Sohrab. I don't feel bothered at all by the scan quality; in fact, it enhances my visual pleasure, with the slight grain and vignetting. Fantastic shot with the man dipping in the holy water, which is so tactile I feel already refreshed just by looking at it.
Good work

Hi Sohrab, I like the movement of the water and the boat in the back...and I think that the scanning adds more to the picture, as it does to other pictures of yours too...
Thanks,

God gracious, is this one of the images of your that you hate so much Sohrab?
I think it's fantastic, I am speechless (or should I say typeless). There is so much spirituality in this image, his profile doesn't have much detail but I sense the tention and the mood of the ceremony.
The debth is great, composition with oof boat, movement of the drops of water. I real joy for my eyes.
IMO this is among your best.

Hi Sohrab, so you got some time to shoot while busy eating at Kasi :-) I agree with Peter here that image is full of spirituality. Everything on the frame is a real pleasure and joy for the eye... TFS and wish you a Happy New Year...

Hi Sohrab. A very nice photo. The technical trouble from the scan does not really impede what is a great moment and a terrific composition.

Hi Sohrab.
Powerful picture but, probably, not between your best.
Anyway, I think that the problems of the picture (about sharpness) may be caused by the scanned.

Bonjour Sohrab

Sohrab
Even though the contrast and brightness was not great, may be because of the early morning and scanning, this picture is great. An excellent close shot of the man, vanishing horizontal river border, not too many subjects visible and falling water makes the effect complete. great,

This is a fantastic decisive moment.
The feeling is just great from this man in pray, the connection with the gange water is perfectly captured. No more motion, just feel the emotions.
Thanks, I like it a lot, Alain -

Hi Sohrab.
Olala what a moment ! That's fabulous.
I like this b/w with this dark part on the man and this excellente timing with all this water.
The framing is perfect too with this little boat on the left.
An impressive POV too.
Congratulations

Beautiful shot...you've captured the essence and that's all that matters to make a great photograph. The technical bits aren't important...unless you're a perfectionist ;)

Hi Sohrab,
Incredible image you are posting!
I really like the moment you catched. Exactly at the right moment to capture the right feeling of the man getting out of the water.
I like also the rendering of the light and textures...I have the feeling that it's coming from an old time.
Bravo, you made my day!
Best wishes to you.

Hello Sohrab,
Happy new year to you and all your family, my friend !
I read that you are not very happy with your work at this time ,
I understand it with this one .
No ;-) I am joking, this one is certainly one of your best !
Everything here is at the right place, the head in the center ,the boat on the calm water making contrast to the movement of the man, even the Tilt is appropriated.
But IMO your work is not brought out scanned from the contact sheet.
I would like to see more printed images from you.

What a great shot. And I think I even like that the scan came out a little rough. It gives a little feeling of timelessness that is much like the city and the ganges itself. But compositionally, it's great. At an even level, it puts us right into the shot, a fellow bather, a brief glimpse from inside the scene.

Hi Sohrab,
this'll be both my first comment and first fav for the year for one of the first photogs in here... I mean everything is perfect here, taking apart the fact that it's a sloppy scan from a contact sheet, : composition, boat as a background, incredible timing, contrast, etc.
I really have nothing to nitpick about : what can I say then? I just wonder what were the conditions when you shot this one, you seem so close that it seems you were dipping yourself in the Ganges.
You really have a great piece of work, Sohrab, I mean it... although you're taking a different, more immediately artistic and personal way than say, MarkGong or Maciek who on their sides get perhaps more publishing ops...(nothing negative in any side of the comparison, I'm only pointing that the two fellows are searching for documentaries while you're catching the atmosphere)... perhaps this is your strength too, you don't seem stressed by any kind of "publishing" pressure over you and let go your own imagination and selctng your own topics.

Happy New Year, Sohrab! I love this "lousy scan" of yours, ha ha. I mean this is another sublime statement, on the artistic side of the ledger. That bather emerges like a God from the holy river.
You are in a class all by yurself, Sohrab, and it is a thrill to see you posting again.
DO...NOT...GO...AWAY
Take care,
Francis

This is realy great Sohrab, I wish you were working from a better scan. I think a better scan could have brought out just a few important details in the face. I really like the up close feel here and having the boat in the background makes all the difference to me. The toning of this really works so well; something that only "true" b&w can do IMO. Good one.

Sohrab, first of all, HI! Happy New Year. And let me say that when I opened this I was at once immersed in its mood. It's gorgeous. It looks a bit less refined than some of your others, as if you did something to lessen the detail or grain but maybe it's just the shutter speed. Whatever it is, it's working, giving the whole thing a kind of liquidity. Maaaaan... You rule. I feel actually grateful to be able to see this shot.

Hi sir,
I rather like the frame, personally speaking i would have needed some more sharpness on this, but your b/w pics are far far better than mine, but am trying to get to the levels you have posted in here first. hence, tones could have still be better to an extent, surely you can do that edit in a snap! if you would have wanted. ....But whoa! This is SCANNED!
So i take all my words above back quitely.
b/w pics .. i just adore em all you posted in here.
Great collection from the magical eyes!
Respects

I think this somehow dirty poor kind of scanning give your photos a unique atmosphere which fits your stories.

Hi Sohrab,
you have such an impressive collection of b/w images here that i have difficulty selecting one to comment. This one particularly raised my brows the most. It's the moment that you've captured that captivates me, though i find myself wishing to see slightly more details of the boy's face. All in all, this image goes to my heart and is excellent!!!
