Photographer's Note
Up a somewhat muddy path from the small carpark is one of the three famous waterfalls of the Nikko area. Urami-no-taki, the waterfalls you can see from behind. (In the old days, it was possible to walk behind them and I have a postcard of an old woodblock printing showing that.) There was a big rockfall in 1902 which changed the shape of the falls.
The famous haiku poet Basho (1644-1694)visited here on his travels around Japan. It's possble to see a little shrine to the left of the water.
I visited the falls a little too early for the autumn colours, though.
Scanned from a photogrpah taken before my camera fell in the creek (but it seems to be all right, fortunately).
