In Laos, many minority groups still use traditional methods to dye their cloth. In the Lanten village of Ban Nam Lue, people grow a plant that will help them dye their homegrown cotton Indigo. The plant is harvested around August, cut, soaked in a tub of water with adding some natural chemicals, including ashes. This will cause the brew to start fermenting and produce a mixture that, when cotton is soaked in it, will turn the cotton, when exposed to air while dryin, the colour indigo. Behind the vessels where the plant is saoking, discarded plant material, and some gourds, used in the mixing and dyeing process, that have taken on the colour of the dye.
