Photographer's Note
That Luang Stupa or The Great Stupa in Vientiane, Lao, PDR is considered the most sacred monument in the country.
It was first built in 236 of the Buddhist Calendar (307 years before A.D.) by the first governor of Vientiane, Phaya Chanthabouri Pasitthisack or Bourchan. The original was built in 1566 by King Saysetthathirath, and was restored in 1953. The golden stupa is 45 meters tall and is believed to contain a relic of the Lord Buddha. The gold centerpiece of this stupa echoes the curve of an elongated Lotus bud. Today, it is the most important national cultural monument.
Symbolizing the coming together of all Lao people, it holds a special place in the national psyche and this image is even part of Lao’s official seal. The shrine is the focus of the annual That Luang Festival which is celebrated for 7 days and nights during the twelfth full moon of the Buddhist Lunar Calendar. It was a bit of challenge when I shoot this stupa as the sky was so glaring at mid day but with some overcast clouds scattered here and there making light management an extra hard work coupled with my “very limited” day time city tour with my bosses. Nevertheless, I had fun taking loads of photos of the wonderful city of Vientiane.

Hello Mics,
This is an interesting building, especially with the emphasis on gold. You explain what a problem the light was, for you. The outer parts are fine but the inside of the area is a little shadowy. If you have PS or some similar programme, it is possible to select and lighten this area. Perhaps a w/s would explain better.
I like how you have made the photograph symmetrical to show the stupa's regularity.
Maybe the inclusion of some steps would have helped to guide viewers to the focal area.
Thank you for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hello Mics,
Indeed Malgo her WS gives more sharpness but your picture is normally not bad.
Colours and subject, are pleasant to look at
An excellent composition, nice presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice new week,
John

Hi Mics,
The tight frame is pitting the stuppa in evidence. The point of view is showing the details pf the That Luang stupa. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.
Pierre
