Photographer's Note

In Ban Nam Lue, a Lanten village in Luang Namtha province, the people grow their own cotton and the indigo plant. Here you can see the indigo plant soaking in water. With addition of some natural chemicals such as ashes, the mixture will start fermenting. The cotton has been spun and woven, and when soaked into this fermenting brew, will change colour, and when exposed to the air while drying will turn "indigo" or dark blue.
