Photographer's Note

When you think of Inle Lake, this is what you see in your mind: the iconic conical fish trap and the fisherman cum a one-leg-rower to be precise. The beauty comes not just from the nature but from its relationship with the people who live on it. This isn㦙 necessarily my best picture, but rather the photo that, with one quick glance, bring me back to the moment when I took it. The lake is the livelihood of these people � the fish beneath the surface provide their daily meals and also the means of trade with the communities on the shore.

It's great to be in a place witnessing the real fisherman, where I find some solitude that has not truly been discovered by the rest of the world.....

Setting: 200 mm, 1/1000 sec, F5.6, ISO Raw 200, 0712 hrs and polarised

Hi Abmdsudi
You have captured this so well. The concentration on the fisherman's face tells it all. I like the reflections and the indistinct trees in the background. Colours and sharpness great.

Hello Abmdsudi,

Your notes suggest this is not a good photograph ... but, for me it is! The close up of the fisherman and his conical net fills the f/g with interesting details. Then, the reflections add that wonderful sense of shimmering movement.
The details provide a sharp f/g against a useful, blurred b/g.

Sadly enough I have few time to visit TE nowadays. On the other hand I'm glad that I have spotted this excellent, timeless shot. The subject's boat and fishing tools are highlighted well against the dull bg. The reflections are a nice addition.

I want to follow you when you go out each day taking photos :)
reading your note, I can feel the peace and tranquility of the local area, and understand why you go back. You say they fish here daily, probably for centuries...i wonder how the fish population sustains itself against all the daily fishing.
