Photographer's Note
Taken early morning from the roof of the Stay-well guesthouse in Pokhara, western Nepal, looking towards Fishtail Mt (Machapuchare), just under 7000 m high (6993m or 21,000 '). The valleys are still in shadow until the sun rises higher during the day. Fishtail Mt has never been climbed, as the locals are superstititious & Western mountaineers cannot ascend without their help, &/or respect their wishes. It looks a bit like the Matterhorn from this angle, but does resemble a fishtail from other angles. Fishtail Mt is in the Annapurnas, a western extension of the Himalayas.

One for Norbert's song titles? (James Taylor)
Does anyone know which province Pokhara is in?There are 6 Pokharas in Nepal, which I never knew before. I'm guessing Gandaki. Polarized, & from a scanned print. Sharpened 3 times already.
Annapurna Range has 6 major peaks, of which Fishtail Mt is only 1. It's actually one of the 'smaller' peaks, but appears larger from Pokhara, because it's closer. It's still 20 km away though, which is why it's probably not pin-sharp. (haze). I have posted an earlier image, which shows some of the other peaks from 'Sarankot'.

Beautiful view, the colors are fantastic and the layered composition, with the wooded hill and the mountain behind having similar geometry is very effective. It could be just a little bit sharper. Magnificent mountain, I am surprised it hasn't been climbed yet - such unclimbed mountains attract the "trophy climbers" like a magnet.

Very good composition with the brown hill in the front with similar gemetry, seems like the colors and the image are noisy (bad scanning?) but still very good one!

Annapurna was the first +more 8000m tall peak climbed .. and it's was during the 50-ties by a french Team ( Louis Lachenal .. Maurice Hertzog . etc .. )
.........
Currently the peak could be matter of xelknox treakking around the whole mountain with a pass to more 5000meters

The scan of this doesn't seem as good as usual, but great compo, and PoV. I had no idea that there were such significant mountains that have never been climbed.

What an amazing mountain - I'm not volunteering to be the first to the summit. I like the strong contrast between the warm foreground colours and the cool background colours.

A mzaing capture of this high peak. I like the contrast between the bald frozen rock and the warm colors and the trees on the lowest hill. Good shot, Chris.

Great shot of the rocky peak, Chris, well presented emerging behind the brownish hill on which the trees are growing. I like how the effect of the clouds and haze gives a slight element of mystery to the appearance of Fishtail Mountain. Well done, and a reasonable result from the scan, particularly in terms of the sunlight effect.
And yes, I put it into the song theme (I think Carole King's version is well known too).

You frame this peak perfectly Chris! I like the surrounding clouds, they create a ghostly atmosphere. The contrast between the foreground (hot) and the background (cold) strikes me.

Hi Chris,
Very good composition. I find it astonishing how the mountain in the background dominates the pictures, even though the more colorful part is in the foreground.
Thanks for posting.

Most beautiful and awe inspiring. The ice capped peak o Fishtail in the background is really majestic and looks foreboding to climbers. Very well captured Chris!

Ah, the mighty fish tail. But I was there for a few weeks and it seemed the atmosphere is getting more polluted every year even in Nepal. Spectacular vista though! Where are you off to next?

Oi Chris!
That mountain looks magnificent, powerful, mighty! I love mountains and those shapes really attract me! It looks like the Matterhorn in Switzerland, but much higher!
It's a very impressive picture and I really truly liked it! An "oldie" of yours!
