Photographer's Note
This was taken through the window of a helicopter. This is the southernmost of three craters (called Troitski) on the Maly Semyachek volcano. The volcano is three km long, and this lake is about half km wide and 140 meters deep. The temperature of the lake ranges from 27 to 42°C. The lake has a concentration of sulphate and hydrochloric acids, and a steel cane would get “swallowed” by the lake in a matter of hours. Apparently, the color of the lake changes from turquoise to green depending of the level of mineralization.
While I adjusted the brightness and contrast, I did not enhance the color at all.

I did not know that in Russia there were a volcanic activity and such pretty landscapes. In fact rare photographs are not often published. We know all Etna, Stromboli or Fuji Yama...
Thank you Mimi for sharing these pictures of good quality.

I would have nerver guess that place is in Russia... Then, well in the spirit of TE! Those real colors are amazing and seem to "explode" in such a grandiose landscape. Perfect sharpness and DOF and all. Congratulations.

What nice "horrible site"! The color of the "water" is almost unreal. The mountains in the foreground and in the background are amazing. Well seen !

Very nice colours in this one, and I also like the background and the different planes in the picture. Moreover, it has a nice composition!

Fantastic place. The shot is great but I guess you could have improved it by placing the lake (well aiming lower I mean - I'm not sure we can move the lake...) a little bit higher so as to have it in a strong node of the picture. It would be even more remarkable like this.
But great pic !

Historic shot. Wonderful pic with amazing lake and beautiful spots of snow. The mountains behind seems so realistic even if in the fog they are not looked well. The note is very interesting.

Fantastic shot. The pattern made by the snow on the mountains is almost as amazing as the color and shape of the lake itself. The two together in one photo..... aahhh.

This is exactly the kind of scenery that so entices me to visit Kamchatka one day. I love the scope of the shot, which mightn't have been easy to achieve shooting out of a helicopter; we can see clearly all the way from the crater and lake in the foreground to the distant mountains, and the horizon in the back. Great stuff!

Wow what a beautiful lake. I love how these lakes are such rich in sulphates and colour. This truly is a beautiful part of russia. You're very lucky to have been to such isolated regions.
Well done on the photo too. It's very crisap and nice, especially taken from a helecopter. Very nice indeed.

Amazing capture, love the sharp colours, so well contrasted.
Looks quite artificial, at first I opened the image thinking it was a digitally edited image, but this capture is fantastic.TFS
