Photographer's Note
St Sophia cathedral in Novgorod. This is one of the oldest church in Russia, if not the oldest. It was built soon after prince Vladimir christened Russia in the 10th century. The church has been rebuilt many times since then. Many historical events took place inside and outside its walls. It is located in the middle of the Kremlin in Novgorod.

This is a lovely photo as is. I like that you included just a portion of the church. I tried a workshop with a closer crop for an alternate view.

This photo makes me long for a trip to Novgorod. Have you been to the forests around this ancient town? It seems to me, they haven't changed since the 10th century, and I wish they never will, otherwise the charm of both the town and the suburbs will be spoilt.
By the way, if you like more of Russian architecture, I advise you lo visit Yaroslavl or Staritsa near Tver. Staritsa stands on Volga, and the people are so hospitable that you'll immediately fall in love with this town. What is of interest is that you can go inside any church or manor (there are plenty of them around Tver) practically without asking. To attract more of your attention I can add that Ivan the Terrible once wished this tiny place to become our capital.
(Looks more like an advertisement than a comment, doesn't it? To let you understand I'll make a reservation: I'm a moscovite, but if I could visit such places more often, I definitely would.)
