Photographer's Note
Hi, there!
Unfortunately, I've been very busy last weeks. A few days ago I had an one day trip to Ekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural's region.
And I want to show you three photos today from this beautiful old city.
Vasily Tatishchev and Georg Wilhelm de Gennin founded Yekaterinburg in 1723 and named it after the wife of Tsar Peter the Great, Yekaterina, who later became empress regnant Catherine I. The official date of the city's foundation is November 18, 1723. It was granted town status in 1796.
This photo by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky from 1910 shows the tallest building in the pre-revolutionary Urals, the Great Zlatoust bell tower
The city was one of Russia's first industrial cities, prompted at the start of the eighteenth century by decrees from the Tsar requiring the development in Yekaterinburg of metal-working businesses. The city was built, with extensive use of iron, to a regular square plan with iron works and residential buildings at the centre. These were surrounded by fortified walls, so that Yekaterinburg was at the same time both a manufacturing centre and a fortress at the frontier between Europe and Asia. It therefore found itself at the heart of Russia's strategy for further development of the entire Ural region. The so-called Siberian highway became operational in 1763 and placed the city on an increasingly important transit route, which led to its development as a focus of trade and commerce between east and west, and gave rise to the description of the city as the "window on Asia". With the growth in trade and the city's administrative importance, the ironworks became less critical, and the more important buildings were increasingly built using expensive stone. Small manufacturing and trading businesses proliferated. In 1781 Russia's empress, Catherine the Great, nominated the city as the administrative centre for the wider region, which led to a further increase in the numbers of military and administrative personnel in the city.

Dear Serghei,
I have always wanted to see Ekaterinburg, and thanks to you, there is a photo from the famous city. The high-rise building is not what I would expect, but in this photo it is the wrought iron fence that becomes the focal point. Have a good weekend,
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Serghei,
Congratulations on being the only person in the World who has so far managed to upload a photograph to TE today! But I rather suspect the reason that you have managed it is because you have been away from TE for quite a few days.
Anyway, while we wait for the administrators to take some notice of the multiple complaints that have been made on the forum, I can tell you how much I love your lovely trio of photographs from your one day trip to Ekaterinburg.
You have written a fascinating and very informative note and also given us three quite different but very appealing photographs, each taken in lovely light and expressing fine vibrant colours and taken with perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Serghei,
The wrought iron fence makes a magnificent frame for the cityscape in the background. The image is pleasantly illuminated and has very good colours and clarity.
You are one of the very few people to have been able to upload in the last three or four days, no doubt because you have been absent from the site for a while. You may find that you cannot post any more pictures on TE after this one. TE is very sick at the moment and no-one seems to be doing anything to fix it.

Hello Serghei,
The site has finally been repaired, at least for now, so I can tell you this is a good photo and an interesting set of pictures from a city not often seen on TE. In the background we see a mixture of old style Russian orthodox architecture and modern buildings of an international style. The city view is surrounded by beautiful autumn colored trees and you found a very nice fence of wrought iron for the foreground. It's a very neatly composed photo with superb light.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Serghei,
Great view of the city from a great POV. I like your choice to include the iron fence and the park in front of the modern city. The light is very nice, especially with the autumn colours of the trees.

Dear Serghei
A very famous city, of which I have read a lot. From memory, is this the city where the Romanovs were murdered during the Revolution? My imagination is going crazy. Beautiful rich colours, fabulous sharpness and stunning perspective.
Warmest wishes

Ciao Serghei,
Splendid capture through and over the fence showing off the old and the new... Love the composition and perspective. Reminds me of my visit to Moscow in 1992 and some scenery I saw, of course without the modern construction.
Warm regards,
GiovanniG
