Photographer's Note
Inside S. Peter and S.Paul Fort there are many small museums. This one is dedicated to show details of the effort of Soviet regime to reach a high level in the conquer of the outer space. There are many old machines, rockets, clothes and photos, but few placards in English.
What called more my attention was the use of the animals as source of knowledge. They used monkeys, dogs, cats, turtles, rabbits and many other animals.
Here we can see the cat image even with its foot print and even the small cage where it was sent to space, at side there are other poster with image of animals used in the experiences and another multiple cage bellow. The image os the dogs in another part of museum was moving too.
Some of animals used had their brains connected with electronic devices..
Fortunately use of animals in science are much more ethical and limited nowadays than it used to be the past.
..................

Jorge, i imagine the stress and the fear of these poor animals locked up in these strange machines sent to the space. Nowadays the use of animals for these experiences is controlled, fortunately. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Jorge, I have rather short time for visiting the fort so I haven't seen this museum. I remember well the excitement when the dog Laika was sent in Cosmos.
Laika was a Soviet space dog who became one of the first animals in space, and the first animal to orbit the Earth. Laika, a stray mongrel from the streets of Moscow, was selected to be the occupant of the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2 that was launched into outer space on 3 November 1957.
Poor cats.
Stay safe

Hi Jorge,
Interesting museum presenting the early days of space race. That face of a space cat catches attention well. I wonder what that small rocket engine was used for.
