The Umbrella, a photo from Daegu, North

Photographer's Note

Another photo of mine that didn't really look like anything special until I viewed it larger, i.e on my computer. I liked the way the man appears to be emerging from the blackness of the escaltor and also the position of his umbrella. This photo continues my current trend of isolation and depression rather nicely if I don't mind saying so myself!

I cropped the shot, apllied a deep blue filter and apllied a little sharpening.

Hi Will,
An incredible shot with a very ominous feeling to it. The lines of the escalator draw the eye upwards to the figure making a great composition. I like the muted bluish colour.

The lines look great and excellent placement of the lamp in the upper left and the umbrella separated completely from the wall, though not by much. Nice contrast and suble use of blue.

Very interesting shot Will, amazing what an umbrella will do for a shot sometimes isn't it (Just imagine this one without it). It is very contrasty on my crappy work monitor but I actually like it in such high contrast as well....gives it a mysterious air

This is one of those shots I wished I had in my gallery. Rally good shor Will, the man morphs out of the darkness, making him look ghostly, Whats cool is that everything about him is simply a black silhouette, even the umbrella. The crisp lines lead our eyes upwards and add strong graphism to the shot.

How was the Biennale? I couldnt make it down there, I regret that. I guess Ill have o wait till the next one.

You have a great eye to catch the wonderful moment. Everthing is perfect for me, i can sit watching this shot for a long time. You have said described the shot well in the note.A sense of isolation is very well in the frame. Great shot TFS

This is an amazing photo Will! It has to looked upon in its entirety but this screen's resolution don't help. I love the way you composed and the way it unfolds from the bottom. The diagonals are perfect and the way the man emerges from the darkness is very well seen. The umbrella against the clear white background is sooo good. I also like the duotone of this. It gives a very cold aspect to the scene and one can almost feel the cold in the subject's hand. Perfect!
