Photographer's Note
Richmond Castle is an Edwardian mansion, located near Kalutara. Built between 1900 and 1910, it was formally the country seat of Mudaliyar Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Sirwardena. The building is currently owned by the Public Trustee.
The mansion was built based on a similar plan of a castle in India, which was owned by Srirwardena's schoolmates. Richmond Castle is a two-story building with sixteen rooms, 99 doors and 34 windows. All essential supplies for the building were sourced from abroad, including floor tiles from Italy, teak from Burma, window panes, decorated with glass depicting grapevines from Scotland and an iron stair and bathroom fittings from England.
Srirwardena moved into Richmond Castle upon his marriage to Clarice Matilda Maude Suriyabandara in 1910. The couple spent 32 years together however they were unable to have children, Srirwenda bequeathed his properties to the Public Trustee with the request that the castle was converted to a children's home.

Hello Zbigniew,
A nice shot of this old mansion. I really like the symmetry of the architecture, which is even stronger thanks to the fountain, plants and path in the foreground. The many details on the fa蓷de and the yellow colour are attractive as well.

Hi Zbigniew,in fact it would need a refurb and apparently the state is not interested, a real shame, great example of early 20th century British architecture in a perfect capture. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Zbigniew,
I hope this stately mansion doesn't fall into disrepair. It has a lot of lovely features, such as the columns and arches. I like the symmetry in this view and all the planters, too. Take care!

Hi Zbigniew
This old Edwardian mansion looks in need of a fresh coat of paint, but the fading and peeling yellow paint still looks great against the blue sky backdrop. Good sharpness and perspective. Tfs!

Hello Zbignew,
Magnificent a century old colonial building, now dedicated to the well beiing of children.
Excellent perspective upon its facade with the front garden enabled a wonderful picture outcome.
Good afternoon,

Hello Zbigniew,
I was struck by the miniature of this beautiful mansion, which did not fit much in this country, of course it is a legacy of English colonialism, it is a beautiful building, with an interesting history.
Effective color and good sharpness and luminosity.
Very best regards.
Luis.
